I passed them earlier that night doing the same check on the Citi bar rank. Every boot was open (safety kits?) and there was a lot of unhappy faces. And it was not a quiet Tuesday night. It was an international match night so a lot of bogies would probably be around.
I was stopped that night on the back road from the Coachman to Portmarnock. Gards checked everything before asking my passenger where I was taking her. Just as well she didnt say the city centre!!!

Why not have cops and TR enforcers at streets where there is no escape eg Harcourt St./Leeson St(just before the Burlo)/Westland Row/North Frederick St/Summerhill/Nassau St between Dawson and Kildare St/Suffolk St/Mountjoy Sq heading for O’Connell St/The Kesh/Whitehall Church(where the speed trap is sometimes,lay by there to pull over drivers)/bottom of the Malahide Rd/Howth Rd./outside any pub!All the types of places you expect to find a drink driving checkpoint.Or as SB said,give a few legit taxi drivers a hi-vis jacket and let them do the TR’s job for them!!And stop ALL taxis for a period of time.Sure enough illegals will phone their mates.Ok,then move to another street.Do this on a FRIDAY and SATURDAY night when the full time PAYE workers are off!!!And do the checks ALL night.Yeah it might screw up the traffic for a bit,but anyone who is legit,wont have a problem with it.If they catch anyone who IS illegal,doesnt have all the required docs on them and/or on display,take the car,not the plate, until the illegal can prove he/she is legit.

Dec- full-time driver 16yrs+ who is PISSED OFF with part-timers/double jobbers and illegals!!!

Instead of the “Swat Team” tactics of jumping out of a van holding up their hands to stop everyone from moving off, they should be more like Traffic Wardens … walking the streets checking at random, Gardai should be doing the same thing, it’s fairly simple: see someone behaving badly move him on, catch him again give him a ticket, catch someone with no ID / daisy/ meter seals ticket them and send them home with no roofsign

It went so quiet for a while last night and then when it was safe to do so,the rats returned.
They have a great communication system going for them.
