Recent Irish Taxi Council Activity

Roy January 22nd, 2010

So you thought they’d gone away?

They’ve been busy little beavers, way too much information to put all the stuff they sent me here on the page, so I made a little site just to hold it all-

well Roy, I for one am impressed with the correspondence between the ITC and TR the ITC are right to ask how the TR came up with the figure of 250 yo yo’s whether it was rounded up or down is of no importance but the actual figure ‘IS’ important. I foolishly thought that come the 1st January 2010 I was going to witness a small percentage of the number of taxi,s driving around instead I see an increase in the numbers it appears to me that for the last few months there has been a ‘panic buying’ of taxi plates, my licence expires Dec 2010 and I know that come that month there is no way that i will be able to afford to pay out that kind of money going by what i earned this Xmas period, we haven’t had a family holiday for two years and to be honest it is not looking good for this year either, but what really makes me sick to the pit of my stomach is that this government some years back encouraged employees and employers with their TV ads and their leaflet drops to take more time of work and spend it with their families. By the way how dare the TR allow an individual that is incapable of speaking English (well so they make out when approached about there illegal plying for trade) have the TACSAI roof sign on their cabs I always thought that you would have to be fluent in speaking Irish and be capable of taking your PSV exam in our native tongue, this TACSAI industry truly is the laughing stock of Europe Nigeria, China and any other country that want’s to get in on the act of treason.

    @Chester.
€250 unfortunately will not buy you a family holiday. Look, we saw the backbone of ITC on O’Connell St. – half of them refused to park illegally, opting to use carparks – there is no chance of any of them operating illegally. When your in the Creche just say what all the Crechies say – You’re fcukin bang on bud, I’m right behind you, I’ll do time before I pay it” – and do what all the Crechies do – pay it as and when it’s due. You could, of course just keep your old ID on display to give the impression you haven’t folded like a little girl.

Tacsaí is not the correct word for Taxi as Gaelige, it’s makey up anglosized crap.

  3. Stephenon 23 Jan 2010 at 1:31 pm

@Chester. Just on the subject of Gaelige, you’re easily impressed, among the semi literate nonsense they actually addressed one of their letters to an Garda “Siochanna”!

    From irishtaxi.org/forum:

    By Frank Byrne, President, ITC.

“I understand your sceptisism (need to run the spell check on that one). The ITC executive committee and chairmen of every affiliate will not be paying the 250 euro renewal fee. I have advised the Gardai, dept of Transport, dept of an Taoiseach, dept of Justice and the regulator that we will not be paying it. It only takes one case to go to court to set the precedent. My licence will be up in May but a lot of my colleagues will be up in march. It is our intention that as our licenses come up for renewal we will refuse to pay it and proceed to the Garda stations to advise them that we are operating illegally, 3 times for the fines, and then request that they prosecute and take us to court. If we fail to win in court I for one will proceed “directly to jail and will not pass go”. Oisin you may think this is rhetoric and only time will tell whether I have the balls to back myself, but believe me this is only the start of things to come and I was always in this for the long haul. Hope you and yours are well.
TO ALL SAVE THIS POST FOR FUTURE REFERANCE! ”

Saved for future reference and future “REFERANCE” (the spell check don’t work on words typed in capital letters Frank!)

On a serious note you’re fcukin bang on bud, I’m right behind you, I’ll do time before I pay it……

If you need somebody to join stephen and yourself for a game of don count me in johnny r might make up a fourhander

  7. Stephenon 24 Jan 2010 at 1:14 pm

    @FB. Stranger things have happened.

@John. I suspect Nighthawk may play a half decent game of Don.

  8. lisa con 25 Jan 2010 at 3:36 pm

I don’t think jr will be involved in that one john m.

  9. Jackon 25 Jan 2010 at 3:57 pm

@Stephen; strangely enough tacsai is more in step with proper Gaeilge than most think. When I learned the teanga, we used the english word where there was no Irish equivalent. As you know `x` is denoted by using `cs` in Gaeilge, so the spelling is correct,as is the sound.

  10. Stephenon 25 Jan 2010 at 6:34 pm

@Jack. One will need to go ont piss with Lorcan to resolve this one. He had an exchange with the Carraige Office some years ago, insisting that there was a word for Taxi prior to the adoption of Tacsaí. Now Lorcan speaks with a degree of authority on the subject, being something of a cultural scholar. He also tore a few strips off em for turning Síochána into Siochana if I remember correctly….although the memory is never good after a session with Lorcan!……I’ll get back to you.

  11. john mon 25 Jan 2010 at 9:06 pm

  16. Jackon 26 Jan 2010 at 3:29 pm

@ Stephen, I`ll bow to Lorcan`s decision on the subject. Cultural Attache par excellence!

  17. Lisa Con 27 Jan 2010 at 10:53 am

    @ John M,
I have always felt that solitaire is a very lonely game.

Fair dues to those boys prepared to refuse payment of this extortion subsidy for Cathleens staff.
She says that the cost of administering the paperwork has never been accounted for-but the sale of taxi plates for the past 10 years and the multi-million Euro bonanza for the government has never been accounted for either?
Except in the creation of a new Quango with jobs for Fianna Fail cronies and printing useless, bullshit ,propaganda; colour brochures about the great work of the “Taxi Regulator” etc.

A taximan sent to Mountjoy may find that his family are better off with him inside than out on the streets.

I understand that all prisoners families whether they be gangsters, bank robbers, drug dealers or just plain taximen- are entitled to welfare payments when the breadwinner is incarcerated?
    Anybody confirm this?

  19. John boyon 10 Feb 2010 at 2:11 pm

    Frank

I would advise you to keep you cards closer to your chest, the other unions might see the light.
