Does The Proposed new Tariff (B) Need Reconsideration?

Roy November 21st, 2012

Is the suggested Tarrif B, Premium rate, of €1.75 per KM, too high?
It is only 2c short of the current tariff C of €1.77 and it begins 15km earlier.
We might lose out on medium distance journeys due to this change.

about the decals . i rang the nta last nite , and asked them if a driver were due for renewal on [say] jan 1st , and considering it is now mid nov , and they STILL have not appointed agents to supply, and fit ,same, in the event he goes up for renewal on jan 1st without the decals because their is still no agents to supply,or fit ,what would be the position the nta would take, as its not the drivers fault there was nobody in place to fit these . their answer was ah well we will adopt a common sense approach .in other words a continuation of the light touch regulation we have seen up to now .in the meantime the driver is free to operate till 1st jan 2014 as far as i can see

now yis can laugh if you like, but for the first time in 3 years i took last weekend off . i planned it for about 6 weeks in advance . along with 3 mates i went to mount melleray abbey , where we spent the weekend with the monks . apperantly this is something people do from time to time who need to clear their heads . i have to say it was a fantastic experience , and i felt completely at ease with myself . i know this industry can leave drivers feeling totally shattered , and unfortunately we have seen over the last few years where some could just not cope with life . you are completely away from the outside world in the sense there are no papers, telivision, radio , etc etc . you will gain a deep appriaction of what is REALLY important in life if you ever try it . if anyone would like more info i am sure roy will give you my contact details .

i see the nta website has a list of approved branding agents up , so does this mean we can go ahead and get it done, or is there something else we have to wait for ?

I’m not sure if the set up whereby fitters can register you on the NTA site is available yet, but a poster on the forum suggests SDA are fitting them from next week for €80 the pair

Who needs them, another money racket

  6. Royon 22 Nov 2012 at 4:26 pm

Who needs working meters? ……. eh ….. emmmmm ….. ehhhhh Taxi Drivers?

  7. flybyniteon 22 Nov 2012 at 6:42 pm

    Roy,
A working meter is an essential instrument in a taxi – even though a hack driver may disagree.
But decals ? Who needs them ?
A taxi waiting on the rank is clearly identifiable.
A punter who wants to flag down an approaching taxi will have only the light box on the roof to identify it until it has stopped alongside. At that moment he or she will probably get in anyway, decal or no decal. And if the punter decides not to get in, it will be unlikely that the reason is the absence of a decal. I also predict that there will be little back lane lock-ups that will provide Igor, Gregor and Husihusi with decals that will be virtually indistinguishable from the real ones. Probably for more money than the legal ones. So: an unnecessary money racket.
And why this fixation on preventing the wife from driving the car on occasion (with roof sign removed) ? Who can afford a second car these days, just so we can make an occasional visit to the relatives in Athy or do the weekly shopping in the nearest Lidl ?

    Yeah you tell em Flyby.
Money rackets that a very good description of everything in this country from the taxi regulator to nct and sgs and the gatzo vans parked all around the country at nights midweek when no traffic around and the penalty points systems and and and……….

but fly the big hope is that it will put a stop to the double jobbers . some say it will, some say it wont , we just have to wait and see. but coupled with the required form to be signedby their employers, and the cross referencing with the revenue, it just might .we live in hope

then why don’t we say NO to these decals, they won’t stop the illegal activity, only enforcement will sort that.

has anybody seen the influx of english cars into the taxi fleet, the vehiaele reg starts 120xxx all new cars in an industry with no money,in fact i think there are as many taxi now than ever.

  12. sidewinderon 23 Nov 2012 at 4:36 pm

now im up and running iwould like to share with all of you the conversation i had with a taxi/merc/chauffer….I asked him how he feelsfeels about nta branding on his door, how will u feel about doing private work whilst nta is all over ur merc/taxi..His answer was i have a magnett designed like the nta logo and the colour is silver the same colour as car, effectivly hidden the fact its a taxi,i ask what the hell does semi permanet branding even meing?

  13. sidewinderon 23 Nov 2012 at 6:16 pm

ok my hardy colleagues i now call alan kelly minister for stickers,if their was one question and one queston only, what would u ask the minister for stickers?

  14. Benon 23 Nov 2012 at 7:02 pm

i would ask him to resign, as he is a failure

  15. Francon 24 Nov 2012 at 9:54 pm

Hi sidewinder, you took the words out of my mouth,The Ministry of Stickers is a caring body, therefore this year only requires two stickers on the doors to show they understand the financial hardship the taxi guys are going through.

Next year you’ll be required to have a further two stickers on the rear doors, that is if you haven’t gone bust or committed Hara Kiri as a result of the shame you brought on your family.

The following year, the bonnet…and it goes on ad nauseum until the likes of Hugh Creegan or whichever General Factotum is in “charge” retires.

This is how the Ministry of Stickers works : Argumentum ad nauseam is the logical fallacy that something becomes true if it is repeated often enough. The overuse of an ad nauseam argument that can be easily shown to be false leads to the PRATT – the “point refuted a thousand times”.

You see as “public servants” ,they have a brief outside of which they cannot step for fear of doing more than their pay grade permits, this condition renders common sense obsolete,
you as a lifelong sticker buyer are now addicted, your head stone will be vinyl (or magnetic if you believe in an afterlife) , and yay it will read “Here lies Sidewinder,in his Vinyl resting place”:-)

  17. flybyniteon 09 Dec 2012 at 2:33 am

I am glad to see that the argument finally seems to turn the corner: We have all seen that it is NOT going to stop sclass driving the same vehicle as a limo and as a taxi, it is NOT going to stop double jobbers and illegals but it IS GOING TO COST US MONEY !

Kellys report is a joke, nothing of any use to full time Irish taxi drivers.
