TTNH Protest March/Drive, December 3rd

Roy November 27th, 2012

From TTnH:

PROTEST MARCH AND DRIVE MONDAY DECEMBER 3RD 10 30 AM. ASSEMBLE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE PROCEED TO DEPT OF TRANSPORT. This action has been called for and voted for by majority.
ALL FULL TIME TAXI DRIVERS WELCOME.

No word on what they are protesting about, or what they disagree with.

That’s just it, TTnH are being purposefully vague in order to attract the largest number of drivers, so whether you want more or less than what is being offered ….. join TTnH on their march and they’ll get it for you.

Back when TDFC was organising protests, all we wanted was for action to be taken to sort out the industry, nobody really agreed on what that action should be, but we all agreed that some action was required.
Now that action is being taken, it’s time for rep bodies to actually say what they have a problem with, vagueness no longer works, we’re in a different scenario, drivers would be fools to march for something they don’t want, or against something they do want.
TTnH seem to be merely spoiling for a fight, anti establishment regardless of whether the establishment is doing good or evil.

roy ttnh reps mentioned at the meeting in wynns last nite what the march was about .

    #roy
The protest is against the proposed fare increases that the NTA are trying to bring in. Increases that will (1) cost us money in meter sealing etc (2) probably drive customers away. And there aren’t many of them anyway. Your bitchiness is pathetic. Why didnt you contact TTnH b4 posting ???

  3. Fredon 27 Nov 2012 at 4:31 pm

Also Roy, TTnH members like myself have been going around ranks with a petition to see if drivers were in favour of a fare increase or not. Everyone i spoke to is totally against an increase! Furthermore, a poll of 1800 members voted against a fare increase. On top of that, research done by the NTA re a fare increase came back with a massive NO from drivers, radio companies and the public.

  4. Royon 27 Nov 2012 at 5:11 pm

Meters will need to be sealed anyway,
Are you saying you want a fare decrease?
Are you saying you want the Fares to stay the sames.
My meter will need recalibration next year it would be nice to get a fare increase and a simpler fare structure at the same time.
Why would I join your march for something I don’t want?
I got your text message poll thing, it said nothing about what you wanted to protest about.
What am I bitching about? I think the actions proposed in the review are generally good for the industry and support their full enactment, you lot are doing all the bitching

I am a TTNH member who is in favour of an increase but i was voted down fair and square.
    Not a 3.6% insult.at least 5%.
So what has Kelly done for us so far.sweet fukk all.what has nta achieved so far sweet fukk all.for me enforcement should be top of the agenda.that’s why ill be on the protest.
More stickers is that the best they can do.brilliant.

  7. flybyniteon 28 Nov 2012 at 2:51 am

    Roy,
I think the statement is clear enough.
And yes, we all have to get our meters checked and sealed.
But a fare increase will require yet another cost: the old seal will have to be broken, the meter re-set and calibrated and sealed again.
Last time after a fare increase KD told the general public that the fare on the meter was the MAXIMUM and that it would be allowed to negotiate a lower (old) fare with the driver.
This was the most STUPID move and I tried to protest by leaving my meter as was, I just told the punters that I kept the old fare without increase.
Of course it made no effin’ difference, the punters now wanted to negotiate an even lower fare.
And at a road check I narrowly escaped a fine because the law said that all meters HAD to show the new fares, HAD to be re-set and re-sealed. What crap !
That and many other grievances is what the protest is all about, I think it is clear enough (even if I was not at Wynn’s).
But I am getting sick and tired of getting on the barricades, driving around with my roof sign lengthways and getting the finger and a laugh from all the scabs who are having a good day – at the expense of the drivers who are trying to get a better deal for them.
Those lousy scabs should have their wheels removed from their cars and sold to pay for their one-way flight home !
AC, this is I think a clear position I take. Nothing to do with race, status of residence even.
I just want to register my disgust at those who stand to profit from the efforts of many drivers to tell the regulator and NTA that we are sick and tired of meaningless new rules, new fare structures that are not even put up for discussion with the drivers, stupid stickers, students driving taxis, lack of action against illegals and everything else that has turned the taxi industry into one big farce instead of a profession in which the drivers can earn a modest living without having to drink Red Bull all night (or day) to stay awake because they need to do a minimum of 70 hours a week just to stay afloat.
But what I am so afraid of is that it will not make one bit of difference!

  8. sidewinderon 28 Nov 2012 at 4:25 am

    Dont .

  9. Fredon 28 Nov 2012 at 9:10 am

    Roy,
Read the TTnHn poster. It states we are not anti establishment!! The protest will be a first in that it is drivers looking for something that is positive for customers ie no fare increase. TTnH want rigorous uncomprimising enforcement! Hence vetting, student visas etc. just because the word ‘enforcement’ wasn’t used does not mean it is not wanted. I want a simpler fare structure and yes a fare decrease! A flat €2.80 hiring charge, €1 per km for first 10 kms, €1.20 for second 10 etc
Fighting with each other achieves nothing. Get active and we can sort this quickly. I believe all further protests, if any, should go to the private homes of varadkar, kelly, other td’s and NTA officials. I know formamfact that these muppets would wet themselves!!!

  10. Martinon 28 Nov 2012 at 10:50 am

Here we go again!!!!!!!,throwing the rattler out of the pram,of coarse “WE NEED A INCREASE”Costs have gone crazy in fuel and keeping your car on the road.If you ask any member of the public of coarse they will say “NO INCREASE”..Now TTNH are protesting on a busy christmas week for what holding up traffic and making the public mad..Enough is Enough. We are self employed and going on a strike is costing my kids to have no food on there table..Its bully boy tactics and certain people wanting to be on National TV.People bottom line are counting the pennys, in there pockets so less people are getting taxis.Look Dublin bus and CIE had a 10% increase.Ill tell you blocking up the city is a disgrace and will make the people think more and more that we are misfits…. as we are already in hot water with the public from past demos.Im working that day and if a driver starts heckling me ,Ill tell him to F***off ,The cheek off them….I wonder how many of TTNH members are 8202020 drivers and NRC drivers?giving up to 50% discount!!!!!..Stop the messing!!!!

A hard working Dublin Taxi driver

  11. Martinon 28 Nov 2012 at 10:59 am

Jasus, just seen Freds, post about fare decrease is he off his head to earn a crust is hard enough, Im 3 hours now without a job!!!!!.Are this TTNH a communist party …Gobshites and should put there heads down and work instead of shit stirring im angry now.How dare you threaten to go to somebodys residence,Fred you better you shutup!!.you say fighting between ourselves well you will be lynched with you are your mates on your personal views.Maybe you should discount 40% and see how long you will have your taxi…Only muppet on here is you!!!.

  12. Royon 28 Nov 2012 at 3:17 pm

Fred, the fare you talk about is only a proposal, if you and your TTnH buddies fill in the form on your website you can ask for the huge reduction in wages you desire, who knows? you might get it!

  13. Fredon 28 Nov 2012 at 4:29 pm

    Martin,roy,
First, nobody has to support the protest. If you cant or dont agree no problem. Work on. The protest is at 11 in order to minimise disruption. This decision was taken based on driver feedback from democratic votes and petitions. As regards protesting at the homes of TD’s etc…. They do not give a damn about us and will continue to ignore us unless we make them properly uncomfortable. I know this to be true because 1) i am a member of FG and 2) when awkward questions are asked they get very nervous indeed. As regards a fare decrease, i believe fares are too high and that people would use us more if slightly cheaper. €1 per km v €1.03 ??? The reason discounting exists is because people think taxis are too dear. Finally, unofficial discounts ie 8202020 creats tension as passengers often have to ask for the discount. No matter what, the only thing that will fix this mess is enforcement. We need 50 enforcement officers carrying out a minimum of 5000 random checks per month! 40% of cars would disappear of the roads and the rest of us legit drivers would get back to making a decent living.regards, fred

  14. bohemian boyon 28 Nov 2012 at 5:20 pm

its an awful pity none of you were at wynns the other night. the shinners appeared genuine in their desire to want to help . 3 shinn tds turned up , mary lou , dessie ellis, sean crowe , angus was supposed to come , but couldnt make it . nonetheless i asked at the meeting would they, in conjunction with ttnh, nita, and ALL other rep bodies take on the roll of trying to unite the drivers ,to which they replied they would . i then asked mary lou would she go to the airport to talk with the drivers , and again she is in the process of doing that . they also realise that our biggest failing is our ability to unite . they also pointed out that through unicifation we could achieve what we want . they know the pressure is on, because of the transport bill that is soon to be presented to the dail . they believe its important to list 3,or 4 headline itims that we want to achieve, rather then going in with a hundred different things [makes sense imo] but in order to do this they must have a mandate from ALL of the full time taxi drivers . so i say get behind the shinners , and lets see can they get the changes you all want

  15. flybyniteon 28 Nov 2012 at 6:11 pm

I have a lot of time for the shinners. They have gone legit and seem to be just about the only politicians who will make an effort to carry through what they promise.
But I agree with Fred, what is lacking most is enforcement.
We are nowhere near united, the only united taxi drivers seem to be certain (ethnic) groups of illegals.
Many illegals are seemingly able to communicate and warn one another of check points. As soon as there is one, they all seem able to either disappear or avoid them.
If there were more enforcement officers this would be made much more difficult.
And these officers should have powers to take illegals off the road and the authority to set up checkpoint. If this means a transfer of certain powers from An Garda Siochana to these officers, so be it !

  16. Martinon 28 Nov 2012 at 6:51 pm

Fred,Are you in the real world!!!!.A taxi driver at dublin airport on you and your shinners fare structure, waiting for 3 hours to get a fare to O’Connell street which is 12Km,the driver will make €14.80 now take out fuel of maybe €2.50,So driver makes €12.30.Did you skip Maths class at school?.The NTA consults with able bodied organisations to review Fare Structures,Not idiots who hold our city to ransom during the festive period. How many Taxi organisations are now in Ireland????,If you want to earn extra money, meeting in Wynns Hotel sipping coffee and talking shite wont do it.I will tell you if you go ahead with this you will loose ALL respect of the public. As far as unification of the drivers you are dreaming. When TDFC were around I went to a meeting in the Kennel Club in Swords onetime,This guy stood up shouting lets close Dublin down and was very angry,What is this guy on.So I lost all respect of unions and organisations like yours …as I was told by my grandparents years ago “Gurriers”…I wonder how many cars will do your protest for lower pay…some of your points are Valid but striking will get you no where..

  17. Martinon 28 Nov 2012 at 7:09 pm

    @fred
    1. 40% of taxis off the road.Where are you getting your figures from????????.Say if that would happen Happy days for the NTA they would sell another 40% off plates…

    2. 5000 random checks per month god man the country is in shite who is going to pay for this You???? Ok lets say 50 enforcers over a 30 day period without a day off…each enforcer will have to 3.33 checkpoints.Really Fred are you winding us up here!!!!!

3.Fred people only have so much disposable income and no matter what the fare is they will not hop in a Taxi.Look at Dublin bus there running at a loss,Why as people are not using them.Maybe if we had solar cars,Id warm to your fare decrease, but honestly Fred Beam back down here to planet earth and stop writing crap on here and annoying us its hard enough out there without you thinking your James Larkin

  18. Martinon 28 Nov 2012 at 7:14 pm

@fred oh I forgot, will you have 1,800 taxis at your shitty protest ,I dont think so…..

  19. sclasson 29 Nov 2012 at 12:34 am

We don’t need 1800 on the protest.100 will make the point its a protest not a strick
    Relax de lads
Its a free country ( up to now that is ) you could have your own little protest if you drag yourself away from your keyboards that you love so much that has got you nowhere nothing
Except deeper in shite with the rest of us.

  20. sidewinderon 29 Nov 2012 at 12:39 am

Im associated with no unioun or rep body,i’ve stood on the sidelines and watched my job go to ruin,i’ve observed opinons and behavior of taxi drivers for 20 yrs and im disillusiond, for the first time since dereg a body of taxi drivers “Ttnh” have decided to stand together and i ask, what is wrong with standing together?1 thing is for sure the industry is not improved,at least their standing together.

  21. sclasson 29 Nov 2012 at 1:12 am

  24. Martinon 29 Nov 2012 at 5:01 am

@Sidewinder and Sclass, and fred if your out of the cot.Look lads bottomline,Dont disrupt the Public. If you want to protest then 100 taxis thats if you even get that, will tarnish the rest of us.Its great you have time to do this as ive to work,Ive to put food on the table and pay bills. You will loose ALL respect from fellow drivers.I would have joined your organisation if you had a different approach. But theres protesting and causing mayhem. We already have a bad name in Ireland,Everybody is feeling the pain over 5000 people have NO ELECTRICITY,cant even feed there kids and you Muppets want to give the public more AMO to hate us more.Im calling RTE and the NTA and Garda Traffic Core today, to ask that you get NO media coverage as all you are doing is harming the Industry.Ill also tell every customer that gets in the taxi you and your organisation are misfits..Oh by the way are you allowed to use the Irish harp on your logo!!!!,would be interesting to find out and I will check. You are not fighting for the hard working Taxidrivers let me say that.@Sclass ,look ALL christmas week is busy dont play games

  25. sclasson 29 Nov 2012 at 9:53 am

With respect to you Martin no need for insults. I am a long time in the game I have seen what has happened to it i am now working for less than the minimum wage do the public give a fork i don’t think so.
does that ministers with very big salaries give a fork No they they don’t .the game is fukked so do you just want to carry on and be treated like a piece of shite or will we stand up for ourself. Or maybe you think the taxi game is hunky dory. TTNH is about taxi Drivers that got

  26. sclasson 29 Nov 2012 at 9:59 am

Sorry pressed submit accendently.as i was saying TTNH is all about taxi drivers getting together for taxi drivers plain and simple.

  27. Martinon 29 Nov 2012 at 11:08 am

    @sclass

Ok then, why block the city, there are other ways….I for one would protest at the Dept of Transport but not block the city up.The main bee in my bonnet is Freds fare structure and enforcement ideas. There is no doubt it is bad out there, but I think you will get more members if you think more of dealing with the NTA in a proper manner. The new legislation is good for the industry, branding is good, will stop alot of the messing going on.I apoligise for been so forward but Im really not happy with any protesting that is effecting the public, remember without them we are nothing.Yes we are working for less then the minimum wage, and our plates are worth nothing.I and every other Taxi owners were robbed. The more legislation the better for all.

  28. sclasson 29 Nov 2012 at 7:14 pm

  33. Francon 01 Dec 2012 at 7:08 pm

Martin, you sound like an amateur.

  34. flybyniteon 03 Dec 2012 at 2:33 am

Problem is when it comes to action we are all amateurs. We are people who want to be free, we cannot dig a job polishing an office chair with our arse from 9 till 5. It is in our character, we are individuals. That is why we never can get our act together. Trucking was a bit the same, the freedom of the road. Me bollocks, the penpushers always have the last laugh – at our expense. I will not come out in support, done it, several times. It made no difference. I just will take the day off.
