Rebranding, it’s dead good!

Roy December 5th, 2012

Fantastic news!

The Irish Taxi industry is to undergo a complete rebranding during the next year, this will involve a standard “look” for each and every Taxi, with hi-visibility decals that can be viewed from the side, these will compliment the existing roofsign which is visible mainly from the front and rear.

Even better news!

This fantastic rebranding looks like it will come in at the low low price of €100 (plus VAT) all in, per Taxi, amazing when you consider the amount of money other small businesses outlay for similar effect.

So get in early and don’t forget to shop around, at the time of writing there are 27 authorised suppliers with more being added all the time: List of Suppliers

Hold on there’s more!

This rebranding also helps with the much publicised campaign to get rid of part timers/Double jobbers and it benefits Full Time Taxi drivers, by turning Taxis into full time Taxis … think about it … it’s Brilliant!

You see!
It doesn’t all have to be negative, it’s not all doom and gloom!

Cheer up FFS!

Roy i hope you are right about the decals, we have nothing else to save us.

  2. Royon 05 Dec 2012 at 9:24 pm

They are not going to save us Ben, but they won’t do any harm

  3. Benon 05 Dec 2012 at 10:12 pm

If they help to get rid of some part timers, and some illegals, then its a positive move.

  4. Weegieon 06 Dec 2012 at 12:55 am

Surely the firemen, teachers and bus/luas drivers, etc. will just drive the wife’s car to work??

  5. flybyniteon 06 Dec 2012 at 1:22 am

Pie in the sky. Fooled again. Why are there so many suckers amongst us who believe this SHITE?
Why will it get us more punters. I have hoarse fingers from writing this over and over again:
Decals will NOT get more punters in our cabs. If we are waiting (like on a rank – a legal rank of course !) the roof signs will be more than enough to identify taxis.
When we are moving and a punter wants to flag us down, he or she will not wait until the taxi is alongside (and no doubt whizzing past). They will flag an APPROACHING taxi, well BEFORE the sides are visible to the point where they can be used as an identification.
    SUCKERED SUCKERED SUCKERED.
Another 100 quid, plus VAT down the drain.
And who believes that a sticker on the side will be a deterrent to double jobbers and illegals ?
    SUCKERS DO !

    Hey guys,
I just got an e-mail from an inventor in China.
He sells a box called “Quao Ti Hing” that can be easily installed in every taxi, it just has to be plugged into a cigar lighter.
Now, when this is switched on it will indicate with pinpoint accuracy the location of every illegal taxi within a one-mile radius.
It works on gamma rays and snake oil. The exact way it works, of course, is a secret. But inside the box is a hazel twig that is sensitive to the gamma rays and is lubricated by the snake oil.
The main principle is that in the equipment of illegal taxis certain minerals and coatings are used that differ from those in legal taxis. The box picks up these signals.
The only condition is that there must be at least 25 other taxis simultaneously in the same one-mile area, all equipped with this Quao Ti Hing box. Otherwise it does not work. First of all, it must be able to take a cross-reference from the other boxes (they communicate via a built-in e-mail and GPS signal) but also because the signal from the illegal taxi is too weak to be detected by one single Quao Ti Hing box. I estimate that for a reliable system there must be at least 3000 boxes operational in the Dublin area to ensure good coverage at all times.
They cost 125 Euro, VAT included.
You can order them by calling Sam R. Tan on 1850 609090.

part time scabs will still use their taxis to go to work, they dont care.might help to get the illegals off the road, until the forgers start production.

  8. mike kellyon 06 Dec 2012 at 5:46 pm

i think these decals are another waste of my hard earned money and will not stop part timers there is a company already offering magnetic stickers that will cover these decals up and here we go again another stupid idea from the regulator who at this stage is a lepurchaun you believe in them but never see them i honestly will be fighting these decals your always gonna have part time taxis ex cops ex soldiers all retired driving taxis have the indians working in topaz are driving taxis around galway city now holding down 2 jobs why because no regulation no back ground checks i could go on but ive got to go and do another 15 hr shift to try make some euros for the next bright ideas we get from our regulator who wouldnt regulate a piss up in a brewery.

  9. Benon 06 Dec 2012 at 6:20 pm

Mike they spend all day in topaz, and all night in a taxi. Ever wonder when they sleep.

  10. flybyniteon 06 Dec 2012 at 7:24 pm

The forgers will not waste any time. There will be a transition period and during that time the illegals will have found a way by getting forged stickers and the double jobbers will cover the real ones. How are stickers on the side going to help anyone except the manufacturers of the stickers – legal and illegal.
And it will not end there.
If the car needs a part respray, let’s say a door gets damaged. No doubt that the car will not be allowed back on the road until it has been replaced. Another source of expenses for us. No I am absolutely 100% convinced that these new stickers are going to be another WASTE of our money !
And it also will take away from the little bit of extra income some of us still have by having ads on the taxi.

  11. Benon 06 Dec 2012 at 7:35 pm

Enforcement is the only way to clean up the business. Decals are a joke.

  12. Francon 07 Dec 2012 at 12:15 am

If you had brains Roy,you’d ask the printer while he’s at his plotter to print a magnet with the word IRISH .ORG in the same font as TAXI ,free advertising….but will you ? lolol

  13. flybyniteon 07 Dec 2012 at 2:20 am

Yes Ben, it’s enforcement that is lacking. Although, the cops are enforcing ridiculously low speed limits on wide 4 lane carriageways. Always good entertainment if you have foreigners in the taxi, going back from a hotel to the airport or so. They cannot understand why some 6-lane motorways (like the M50) have the same speed limit as a narrow, pothole-riddled country lane with a washboard surface and no hard shoulder in the West of the country.
I explain that his is Irish Garda wisdom: Speeding is controlled because on roads where you are able to drive fast you are not allowed and on roads where high speeds are allowed you are not able to drive that fast anyway. An Irish solution !

  14. mike kellyon 07 Dec 2012 at 3:18 am

they never sleep as their cars are going around the clock everytime i come in the same cars from nites with same drivers are always their before me no matter how i early i start my shift and these are the same ones living in affordable and council housing whose wives are driving new vehicles all compliments of the little taxes they screw outta me but yet i cant upgrade from a 2003 car but they are all driving 2010 onwards new avensis it makes me so mad that the regulator thinks decals are going to stop illlegal taxis when they are amongs us getting free houses and huge handouts we are no competition for these drivers and further more most of the large companies and i mean irish owned and ran with all irish drivers are now taking to plying for hire illegally all over the city and ive taken to taking pictures and videos but who am i gonna give them too according to gardai ive got to ask premmision from said illegally operating drivers before i take them its a laugh and no one gives a shit when i was on the galway taxi assoc commitee i suggested to rally dublin close it down drive in circles close the city for min a week using drivers from all over the country i was shot down would i get help no most all talk no action ive plagued tds and ministers to re look at our situation but to no avail we may just pack it in and leave to the thieves and foreign nationals in the business !!!!!!

  15. Benon 07 Dec 2012 at 11:23 am

Mike dont give in to them, thats what they want. Fight back, its our industry. I know all about the new cars, first new taxi on rank back in January was a non national female driver with a nice new avensis. Can you remember that. Wonder where she got the price of it.

  16. C5on 07 Dec 2012 at 2:00 pm

i saw that car a 12 G, the colour suits her she blends in, she had a new passat before that, she changes every 2 or 3 years, and me with my 03 still holding it together putting in the hours every day, that non national doesnt work many hours in the day around 6 or 7 hours sometimes less, not like me 9 on a good day but mostly 12 or 13 and sometimes 17 when its really bad. mike i get pissed of to when i see those cars,it just drives me harder, the way i see it if the locals stay out working an hour or two more than they normaly do and fill up the the ranks, the less they will get, theres more of us than there is of them.

  17. Benon 07 Dec 2012 at 4:09 pm

doubt my bank would finance a new car for me even if i was mad enough to think about changing

  18. paul o beirneon 09 Jan 2013 at 9:25 am

  19. Fredon 15 Jan 2013 at 7:42 am

    Hi all,
Heard two reports yesterday re decals…
    (1) driver rang up supplier/fitter in Galway about getting decals, supplier offered to POST them out to him rather than have him travel????
    (2) decals fitted by certain authorised supplier in Dublin are being failed by SGS. Drivers ring NTA only to be told “the problem is between you and the fitter”! Go figure. Did NTA not check fitters to ensure they met NTA requirements???
Also, is it not a conflict of interest to have companies who rent out taxis also fitting decals? As with everything the NTA do….absolute incompetance!

geazils the sentiments expressed by you are indeed aspirational for the vast majority of full time taxi drivers . however it is my understanding that siptu taxi branch ceased their affiliation to the afore mentioned union by mutual agreement . as self employed individuals it is right that we should unite for the betterment of industry, and to also secure our futures as taxi drivers on the whole . i personally believe that such a move should be brought about by the insisting of drivers that the leadership of each respective rep orginization of which they are a member, sit down together to agree a common policy going forward .i also believe that part of that policy should include the eventual amalgamation of gruops concerned at that time. i would disagree with you however on one point you made .you proposed someone like brendan ogle to lead this new group going forward .this is the same brendan ogle who, on more then one occasion has been made aware of the fact that the people he currently represents are morally breaching the fundamental trade union principle of one man one job by double jobbing our industry . i have asked him , and other colleagues of his from the trade union movement to express their condemnation of this anti trade union act,but i might as well have asked the cat . they wont even acknowledge my request .this is the reason we need to unite, possibley under a joint leadership of jerry brennen ,and dave mcgiunness .people who know the business inside out . i dont doubt the credintials of either nita,or ttnh so lets give them a mandate to achieve our aspirations . an national excutive committie could also be formed ,along with branches to represent the various counties

  21. bohemian boyon 15 Jan 2013 at 4:19 pm

demand proper representation after all your paying for it

  22. bohemian boyon 18 Jan 2013 at 6:23 pm

got clarification today from eddie fullerton regarding the incident i posted about the other night concerning the towrags outside the londis shop stealing the work from the foster place rank .unfortunetaly it seems the cops i approached were right , as long as the scumbags are NOT in the car, they cant be touched

  23. geron 18 Jan 2013 at 8:15 pm

Is there not double yellow lines outside that shop? im sure there is? or a bus stop?

  24. Robbinon 08 Feb 2013 at 10:01 am

  34. Benon 08 Feb 2013 at 4:37 pm

its well for some people, i might have a tea bag in the house

  35. C5on 08 Feb 2013 at 9:00 pm

ben,i got a fine in the post today i didnt know anything about it until i opened it, 40 euro from galway city council for standing a street service vehicle for hire at a place which is not an appointed stand at 17:26 on 26 jan 2013,i was waiting at the private coach station that evening for a private booking that was due in at 17:30,i didnt see a warden or garda around that would give me a ticket, can they do that,im so pissed off that was about 60% of my days takings that day when i looked back at my books.

  36. bohemian boyon 08 Feb 2013 at 9:40 pm

you mean you keep books sclass ? ah no seriously though here in dublin the last few weeks, the cops have been very active giving out tickets for the same offence.the problem is they are giving them to drivers hanging off the backs off ranks trying to get on. they completely pass by the towrags who are blatently stealing the work from the official ranks like the crowd outside the londis shop on dame st, bottom of grafton st robbing the molly molone work dandalion robbing the green, etc, etc,i couldnt believe my eyes on tuesday nite in dame st.the unofficial rank ran from the whole lenght of the central bank on dame st, right down to the very start of the fosters. not ONE of the auld ones on the fosters had the balls to ask them what the fukk they were playing at

  37. Benon 08 Feb 2013 at 9:57 pm

C5 that was surely an unmarked garda car that got you there, i know that new bus station, its hard to park there. same if one of those cop cars is driving behind you, they can record your speed, and you get the ticket in the post. if you had a genuine booking, you should appeal the fine, nothing to lose. also tell them to go catch some of the illegal foreign drivers, the city is crawling with them.

  38. Vat manon 08 Feb 2013 at 10:49 pm

I told you that weeks ago CCTV recordings may be used to catch taxi drivers illegally plying for hire. I heard also there is still a lot of active taxi drivers & rental operators who have not registered there details or there drivers details on the NTA portal

  39. geron 08 Feb 2013 at 11:19 pm

I wonder why vat man. filthbags. dirty vermin.

  40. C5on 08 Feb 2013 at 11:47 pm

Ben the letter was galway city council headed paper,id say it was a warden lurking somewhere in the shadows with a keypad.i sure am going to appeal it.they built that place with no taxi rank, most of the taxis there are nigerian and they are always there day and night. ben i was wondering do you work galway city or county.

  41. geron 09 Feb 2013 at 12:45 am

Vat man must have passed out after his afternoon tipple.

  42. Vat manon 09 Feb 2013 at 12:51 am

I will have to give up this wine it’s effecting my eye sight

  43. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 7:53 am

city council ticket is a warden ok.ask them how are you supposed to collect a pre booked call there if you cant park.also ask them how many tickets have been issued to foreign guys, and how many of them have actually been paid. those guys would not be booked, they are illegal there.

  44. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 7:55 am

vat man how many bottles of that stuff do you drink every day

  45. bohemian boyon 09 Feb 2013 at 11:28 am

c5 im no legal expert or anything, but the fact that the warden did not approach you, and there is no photographic evedince would suggest their case against you is not up to much. i also recall something along the line that if you are INSIDE the car you could have pulled over to take urgently needed medication . i probably wrong about the above, but try anyway and let us know how you get on

  46. C5on 09 Feb 2013 at 12:13 pm

its the public sector so it might take a while,or i might get on to galway bay fm.

  47. Vat manon 09 Feb 2013 at 12:15 pm

    Afternoon lads

  48. Vat manon 09 Feb 2013 at 12:17 pm

If it was me I’d just pay the fine and be done with it

  49. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 12:57 pm

i forgot a warden has to put the ticket on your car, is that correct. otherwise its not valid as far i know

  50. C5on 09 Feb 2013 at 1:15 pm

pay those twits after Getting punished for trying to do my job, no way, that was very bad planning not providing a proper place for W.A.T or taxis to pick up anyone who has alot of luggage or a wheelchair.i was booked by a reguler customer, sometimes the bus is early sometimes its late if traffic is bad,i was there 10mins early just incase.i only go there when im booked but hour after hour day after day its a game of spot the native irish man or woman. and they are still there as i type.

  51. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 1:23 pm

that place has become an unofficial taxi rank for africans, its a disgrace the way they block the road there, and get away with it

  52. bohemian boyon 09 Feb 2013 at 4:30 pm

dont know if you read over on the forum about that td called owen murphy, last week he questioned gerry murphy of the nta about the perception that the greshem rank is racist.he made sweeping statements including that he can see whats going on as he regularly uses taxis, and how irish drivers treat these africans.he had an email from me about 10 mins later.i got an acknowledgement from his secretary the next day saying she would bring the matter to his attention, not a word since

  53. Vat manon 09 Feb 2013 at 4:30 pm

If the person in question was out of the car at the time the fine will hold also it also depends how long the taxi was parked at the unofficial taxi rank for. If the taxi was parked for more than 5 to 10 min at the unofficial taxi rank,I would think it would be pointless appealing

  54. Vat manon 09 Feb 2013 at 4:42 pm

You can’t go asking the City Council how many fines did you give to foreign taxi drivers. I know for a fact they can not release that information

  55. geron 09 Feb 2013 at 5:31 pm

Galway crawling with vermin as well??? A fooking disgrace. wonder how many of the cars are cloned? eg. same car working dublin and galway. another beautiful city destroyed. country is a fooking cesspit with the trash of the world now here.. thats what happens when you have a welfare state. vermin coming up outta the sewers.

  56. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 7:45 pm

wonder why my last post was deleted

  57. bohemian boyon 09 Feb 2013 at 8:32 pm

ben you know roy champions they cause of the africans,so maybe you said something to upset him

  58. zedon 09 Feb 2013 at 9:08 pm

    1. If you have a bin ,use it.

2.Leave the fine with the Relieving Officer.

    3.Pay it.

  59. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 9:22 pm

must have done sumtin, i was just being honest, cant shoot me for that

  60. Benon 09 Feb 2013 at 9:40 pm

boh how will he react when all the romanians and bulgarians come here next year
