Taxi Bill 2012

Roy December 6th, 2012

Minister Kelly has published his bill which is designed to replace the 2003 Taxi Act.
There is a lot of reading in the bill but it has been broken down into its respective parts over on the forum for easier dissection or you can read the entire bill there if you prefer.

have just been reading the taxi bill, i dont see one word about double jobbers having to get their form signed by their employers, or anything to do with working time hours , maybe i missed it

what a joke, the hauliers get a deisel rebate, and we get hit with a doubling of our prsi contrabution . surely now if we are making such contrabutions, we should be entitled to full state benefits ?

  3. Gordoon 06 Dec 2012 at 11:20 am

BB .. Its fair to say the doubling of the Prsi contribution was not aimed at just Taxi drivers ;) Even the oul paye workers are now down another €263

did yis read what the definition of a dispatch operator is in the new bill ? it clearly states what the function of the dispatch operator is . nowhere does it say their function is extended to offering discounts [on behalf of the driver] nowhere does it say they have the right to tell you what to wear , nowhere does it say they have the right to disipline you for not accepting a particular job , nowhere does it authorise them to give work out the back door to their cronies, all of you dispanch drivers know i am right in what i say, yet none of you have the balls to do anything about it .i would NEVER join one of these gangsters, but if i did i would be gone after 5 mins because i would have told ebbs, kelly, or kearns, or whoever to shove his radio where the sun dont shine . i would have told them i dont want to join the ranks of their EMPLOYEES , because i am SELF EMPLOYED . why dont you all grow a pair for gods sake

i can find NOTHING about the rental section in the new bill, nor can i find anything about the double jobbers having to get a form signed by their employers . can anyone else find either ?

just reading there in one of the subsections about you cannot act as a dispatch operator if you dont have a licence, do any of you know of any of them operating without a licence ? if you do please tell me , i wont belong reporting it

if you want to find out if a dispatch operator, driver or taxi is licenced or not?, you just have to type in the name of the company or number from the taxi or driver in the section provided in the transport for ireland website.i did it and it got one unlicenced operator in a load of shite when i reported.

Dear Forum, has anybody heard about the new point system coming in the new year on your taxi licence?? I heard today that if you receive 8 points on your licence you will suspended for 3 months and if you receive 12 points you will be suspended for 3 years.. Can anybody confirm this??

  14. Francon 08 Dec 2012 at 8:05 pm

@ Headaball, ignore it,it’s as unenforceable as previous rules, carry on as before.

  15. Royon 08 Dec 2012 at 9:31 pm

Headaball, collect 8 points 3 months suspension, no 3 year suspension:

    Sidewinder,
I like your comment… because the last two days have been HECTIC and I am sure it has been a good few days for all of us.
OK, the inner city is nearly impassable but many shoppers seem to leave their cars at home.
Hardly any waiting time for taxis at the ranks, St. Stephen’s Green rank flowing nearly like in the good aul’ days. I am just at home for a cuppa, drop off my cash and take a small rest.
No, I won’t tell you where I live. I have ££$$££$$ in the house (unless the wife took it to go shopping) so I don’t want to alert the burglars. It is all go, I get flagged down nearly everywhere. Recession ? What recession ?
In the previous years following the near-collapse of the economy I did not have a lot to do this time of the year and we all know that come 2013 the business will drop off dramatically until Paddy’s Day. I could not put much beef on our account to carry us through. This year, if it remains this busy I will survive ! Just as well, the wife is still on the dole !
OK, I have said it. Back to work !

Unenforceable I don’t think so. Carry on and be compliant and you have nothing to worry about

Who was the bright spark that gave permission for the FM104 bus to be parked on one side of the green taxi rank for the busiest part of the new years eve ? was it a ‘happy new year lads’ from minister Kelly.
