Full Time Taxis

Roy December 10th, 2012

The Minister, Rep Bodies and TTnH in particular, are always banging on about full time taxi drivers and looking after them, some wanting to rid the industry of part timers and double jobbers.

According to revenue, Taxis are supposed to be operated as taxis all the time in order to be road taxed as Taxis:

So why not insist all Taxis are road taxed as taxis (as that is what they are) and ban all private use, other than incidental, that way double jobbers wouldn’t be allowed use their taxis to drive to work, thereby protecting Full Time Taxi drivers.

But guess what?

Not one rep body would have the neck to request it and TTnH would probably bring a court case against it.

Because as always they’d want it both ways.

Roy how could this be enforced

  2. Maxima Taxion 10 Dec 2012 at 4:56 pm

I once got talking to a NYC taxi driver, he told me that he had to have a 2nd car because his wife would not be permitted to drive his taxi while he slept or he couldn’t use the taxi if it wasn’t for taxi work. He told me that city hall would be very strict on these matters so he needed a 2nd car.
Here we have gotten used to just jumping into the taxi & just going as we want. We’ve grown used to the taxi being our car & not just a taxi. Ive seen taxis with the roof sign taken down doing the school run or parked in an army barracks one time.
Maybe if the new roof signs to come were fixed to the roof rather than held with magnets it would make a difference, after all when the door stickers go on then the car is marked as a taxi so a fixed roof sign is not going to make a difference if worried about car break-ins & there is enough car washes by hand around now so driving through a car was wouldn’t be an issue.
We just need to get used to the idea that a taxi is a taxi & if you need to drive to your 2nd job then you’ll probably need a 2nd car for that job.

  3. Royon 10 Dec 2012 at 7:08 pm

As Maxima said, if you’re using it for anything other than Taxi driving or incidental to taxi driving it would be the equivalent of driving without road tax, because Taxis would only be taxed to Taxi
Driving an un-taxed or improperly taxed vehicle carries a fine if within a certain timeframe and is impounded after that timeframe

  4. Benon 10 Dec 2012 at 7:16 pm

L et the people from Revenue inspect cars going into army barracks, factory car parks, dublin bus, schools, esb yard, the list is endless. They could also watch car parks near dole, or welfare offices, to see who is working and claiming.

  5. Fredon 11 Dec 2012 at 9:38 am

If the industry regulations were properly enforced then maybe drivers could afford a second car for private use otherwise….

  6. bohemian boyon 11 Dec 2012 at 2:02 pm

im booked in to get me decals on thursday with advantage printers ltd , strange thing is i used to work for them many, many, years ago , printing such things as taxi roof signs

  7. Royon 11 Dec 2012 at 2:33 pm

Fred, you’ll never make more income unless the fleet is reduced, the fleet won’t be reduced if there are no deterrents, part timers and double jobbers seem to be who TTnH want deterred, making taxis full time would help achieve that aim, but in reality TTnH are all talk, they don’t want solutions …. they want subscriptions.

  8. bohemian boyon 11 Dec 2012 at 3:25 pm

roy its not often you, and i agree , but i have to say i think your right on this one , though it could easely backfire on us because it will be only the double jobbers who can afford to get whatever new requirements carried out

  9. Royon 11 Dec 2012 at 7:12 pm

    There are many drawbacks,
Wives, partners, family etc will not be able to drive the taxi unless the are insured to use it as a Taxi, have PSV licence and are registered to use it.
Taxi drivers use of the taxi for private use will be severely limited …… anything that couldn’t be explained as incidental would be banned.
However double jobbers would require a second car to drive to and from work and a third if their wives want a runaround …unlikely to be worthwhile for most.

Trying to wind it up again Roy.TTNH are volunteers and ignore crisasisim from the likes of you Roy who sits on your arse taping your keypad slaging any one and every one.so what have you achieved so fare.and what has your beloved establishment born for taxi drivers fukk all.so don’t blame other taxi drivers TTNH again.blame your sweetheart Allan Kelly where is the waffler now

  11. Royon 12 Dec 2012 at 7:20 pm

Funny way of ignoring criticism, however I hope it’s just me you ignore, you should really pay heed to Taxi drivers concerns … last time I looked that’s what I was, are my concerns not valid?

  12. sclasson 12 Dec 2012 at 9:23 pm

Actually That is exactly what we do pay heed to taxi drivers concerns TTNH members.
Last time i look your not a member.

  13. Royon 13 Dec 2012 at 1:27 am

I keep getting texts referring to me as one and I’m certain I’m counted in the “1800″, but no you don’t represent me, you have no solutions, your sole aim is to stop progress, “no” to everything that’s proposed, whether good bad or indifferent,

  14. flybyniteon 13 Dec 2012 at 1:58 am

We all know about “in the ideal world…. ”
But we live in the real world.
And in the real world, as bb points out, only the double jobbers would earn enough to afford a second car.
It also has been discussed previously that the double jobbers, as well as the “sclass” drivers who double-job as limo- and taxi drivers are already looking for, and finding (!), ways to disguise the stickers. Some may even argue, if found out, that they only do this so that their car (taxi) will not attract undue attention when parked. So, they will claim, they cover the stickers and remove the roof sign overnight and therefore it is a legit reason to do this.
As for fixed roof signs: 1. Security. I ALWAYS remove the sign as soon as I stop working since it has been vandalised some years ago. 2. A former taxi has very little second-hand value as is. When there are tell-tale signs on the roof, like repairs to close the holes made by bolts or other fixings the 2nd hand value will drop even more. Which will make it even more likely that we will be forced to drive the car until it falls apart or at least will no longer be an economical proposition to keep going as a taxi. Or of course, if and when a 9, 12 or other year rule will finally be brought in to limit the life-span of a taxi, it will add more money to the cost of replacing a taxi because the value of the trade-in will be zilch.
So I am AGAINST the introduction of non-removable roof signs.
I also have made it quite clear that I am against those b…dy stickers.
I am considering, if this is brought in, to follow the example of those who get something made up to cover these stickers, hoping that the vandals will not return one day and see my car (with or without roof sign) marked as a taxi. I have heard a story of a taxi driver whose car was broken into. The next morning he found that a window was smashed and the back seats were taken out, lying in the rain out on the street. Why ? because the druggies know that in a taxi there is nearly always money under the seat. I take out the seats at least once a week and often find between 4 and 8 Euros. And that is EVERY WEEK. So taxis (vehicles clearly recognisable as such) are sitting ducks !
About Revenue posting inspectors at industrial parks, bus garages, army barracks: Ben, what world do you live in? Do you not realise that there is a sore lack of enforcers as is ? We need enforcement, not from the Revenue but from the NTA. Random. A lot of. Not only to find double-jobbers but also to catch illegals.
Give me a guess what will happen if they do this ? Revenue are used to work 9 till 5. So if they have to be out at other times they will claim overtime. The cost of those inspectors will be raised by increasing the road tax on taxis, a higher cost of renewing the taxi licence or other new revenue raising measures. In other words: It will come out of our pockets – again.
And do not forget that if double jobbers use their taxis to commute, a road inspection will be unlikely to stop that. Because they are still legit, the driver will hold an SPSV licence and I doubt very much that inspectors will be very active stopping every taxi (in the rush hour ?) to verify that they are “working” and not on their way to or from (another place of) work.

  15. Royon 13 Dec 2012 at 2:32 pm

Full time Taxi drivers shouldn’t need a second vehicle, as 90% their use can be explained as either taxi use or incidental to taxi use.
Driving it to your other job cannot be described as incidental.

  16. bohemian boyon 13 Dec 2012 at 3:08 pm

your all forgetting something ,not wanting your 9 to 5 employer known about your taxi driving activities is one thing, but i honestly think its more about the double jobbers not wanting their NIGHBOURS to know that would bother them mostly .so what would be the point in them buying a second car ?where would they hide that from the niegbours ? i believe that at the moment , they are seriously considering wether to stay in and expose themselves, or just get christmas out of it and get out . either way we will not know for some time wether or not the new rules will have the desired affect , so we can speculate all we like, only time will tell

  17. bohemian boyon 13 Dec 2012 at 4:36 pm

fukin gas over on the forum . all arguing about which is best hailo, or ebbs , and the rest . when will they realize that NONE of these kunnts are nessesary in the game at all. we drivers dont need you fuking radio companies ,or apps. if you didnt exist, punters would just open their doors, and stop the next car passing by , which will almost certainly be a taxi .save yourselves a 100 plus a week, tell them to stick their radios where the sun dont shine . all these knutts are short of doing now is, threatening you with dismissal . they really DO believe you work for them ,will yis cop on for gods sake

  18. flybyniteon 13 Dec 2012 at 6:29 pm

    Roy,
That is just the point. If the rules are enforced that a car, registered as a taxi, can ONLY be driven as a taxi (or to and fro NCT or workshop) then the ordinary full-time taxi driver’s wife will not be allowed to use it for a trip to Lidl whilst her hubby is asleep. At the moment, mine does.
Those stickers will be useful, not for Joe or Josephine Public but they may serve to catch double-jobbers.
Great, you’d say, isn’t that exactly what we want ?
But only the double jobbers will have the extra money to afford a second car.
At the same time, I know of some who drive a large, expensive car as a taxi because they cannot afford it on an ordinary income. So if their expensive SUV has to be branded and clearly marked as a taxi, the only light I see is that the expensive vehicle or limo cannot be used for their private purpose and so the whole reason for the double jobbing may disappear.
But I do not hold my breath. There are civil servants at work here and you know the definition of a civil servant ? Actually two:
    1. A civil servant is someone who has a problem for every solution,
    2. A civil servant is the tunnel at the end of the light.

  19. Benon 13 Dec 2012 at 7:11 pm

and lots of civil servants drive taxis part time, so where does that leave us

  20. Jameson 13 Dec 2012 at 8:55 pm

    I agree ….
“Full time Taxi drivers shouldn’t need a second vehicle, as 90% their use can be explained as either taxi use or incidental to taxi use.”

  21. Benon 14 Dec 2012 at 6:50 am

can any full time taxi driver afford a second car its hard enough to keep one car on the road the way business is

  22. Fredon 14 Dec 2012 at 7:14 am

    Roy,
You appear to be going of the rails. TTnH want rigorous enforcement! No amount of rules, regulations or legislation will make any difference unless properly enforced. That means dedicated enforcement officers!! Was speaking to a driver with the decals fitted. He was telling me that he got told by enforcement that the decals were illegal until 1st January. Got sorted when fitters contacted NTA who then and ONLY then told enforcement that it was ok. What an absolute joke!!!!

  23. Royon 14 Dec 2012 at 8:26 am

Bullshit, they are against the demerit system, just like their against everything else, TTNH SAAAAAYS NO!

  24. Benon 14 Dec 2012 at 9:43 am

whats the point in all this demerit crap, there is no one out there to enforce the rules the illegals are having a ball of a time

  25. Royon 14 Dec 2012 at 2:22 pm

We’ll see if the demerit system makes a difference, but I reckon we’ll be far more likely to be fined and given demerits due to the staged nature of the fine amounts and a court case being unnecessary and unlikely.
Regardless, a rep body supposedly in favour of enforcement should be in favour of demerits, not marching against them

  26. Benon 14 Dec 2012 at 2:27 pm

And who will enforce it ?

  27. Royon 14 Dec 2012 at 3:02 pm

Seemingly the Guards, I’ve heard traffic wardens can too, and by a reliable source, however they are unlikely to approach an occupied vehicle.
The Gardai have been unwilling to enforce Taxi regulations due to the unfair nature of the fines and the guaranteed court case, the extra demerits on conviction and the lower fines, lessen the likelihood of court cases

  28. Benon 14 Dec 2012 at 4:30 pm

Its about time the Guards took an interest in whats happening in the taxi biz, as they are the only ones with real power to enforce rules.

  29. African Cabbieon 15 Dec 2012 at 9:02 am

I’ve seen a lot of Guards “target” immigrants in their enforcement strategy.

On one occasion (and a lot of people are beginning to notice and observe these “double-standards”), the Guard saw three taxis ranking illegally, he rode his Bike pass each of them “slowly” (taking his time to ascertain their color!), then he left them there. On another occasion, he saw “an immigrant” amongst them and pounced on him FIRST ….while the others (Irish) just drove-off.

On another occasion, Four Taxis queued-up, tried picking up passenger at a Junction (illegal!). Number 1, 2 where “Irish”. Number 3 was “African”, number 4 was Irish. Guard walks past 1 and 2, pounces on 3 (Black guy) and the rest just drove-off!.
A lot of people (even passers-by / fairs) are beginning to observe this happening as well.

I guess this is the whole idea behind these “Demerit System and Enforcement strategy”!
AN EXCUSE TO PROTECT TAXI BUSINESS FOR “WHITE-SKIN-IRISH ONLY?

THE NTA and Guards are becoming a tool in this “witch-hunting” exercise.
Its a SHAME what this country is becoming.

Am sure some “Video- document” of some of these acts will appear on Youtube someday.

  30. geron 15 Dec 2012 at 3:55 pm

How do you know the “white” guys were irish? Thats like me saying all “blacks” are nigerian. And i think you would say thats racist. in fact i know you would. try and be nice ac.

  31. Benon 15 Dec 2012 at 5:37 pm

they are all good at pulling the racist card

  32. Royon 15 Dec 2012 at 8:35 pm

That’s just bull AD, sounds like you’re warning enforcement not to ticket black drivers, if they don’t want tickets/demerits don’t act illegally … same goes for everybody else.
Gardai tend to single out individuals they have spoken to or seen before for special attention.

  33. African Cabbieon 16 Dec 2012 at 9:31 am

No Roy, l want EVERYONE who does something “illegal” to be ticketed!
Everyone, as in E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E, irrespective of their color or nationality.

What l dont subscribe to is ‘Selective Justice’.
Do you actually believe a Guard can single out a driver amongst the 38,000 in circulation? (lol)

I think people in public office, holding public trust, (like Judges, public office holders like Guards, civil servants, e.t.c), should be able to rise above petty sentiments, in the dispensation of Justice or responsibility.

This may seem like a “hard sell’ now and l am not asking you to take it.
…..but l guess when the video evidences (not just a single, one-off case, but repeated acts like that) starts to surface (which would be inevitable), you should judge by yourself.
    ———————————————————-

    @ger,
l understand how you would feel about this and l dont mean to upset any apple-cart here but l am just being honest in what l and many others (including Indians!) have been observing and wondering about!

Its a very sensitive issue and as such, one tends to be very quiet about it but you know, there is always a threshold for such things when ‘silence is no longer an option’. Maybe its just some overzealous ‘members’ that are doing these as l dont think it is acceptable as an institutional policy.

Even the way the rash of legislations passed recently is designed and structured, one does not need to be clairvoyant to see that it will definitely affect one group of people than the other for no other reason than that they are immigrant who came into the industry recently …and that seem to be the “unspoken objective”.

For example, lets assume that Australia was to pass a law which says ‘everyone’ that STARTED working in the construction industry in Australia in the last five years would be taxed at a higher percentage (while those who started earlier will be taxed lower), even though it appears ‘innocent’ on the surface, the implication would be that “majority to the tune of around 90%” of those that would be affected will be Irish immigrants. Thus indirectly, they have passed a law which is “selective and discriminatory” ….by impact.

I have lived long enough in this country and taken a keen interest in fellow citizens, to be able to “identify” a native Irish man. Same way l can identify various nationalities, be it African, Pakistani, Indian, Brazilian, Chinese, e.t.c.
You wont believe it, but if you look at people more closely, you will see that they (each nationality) all have “common physical features and peculiarities” amongst themselves.

Like l said earlier, l wont flog this with anyone over here.
    Time would tell.

  34. Benon 16 Dec 2012 at 11:59 am

Gardai are doing their job, dont moan about it. You people have got away with too much illegal activity for too long. You have ruined the Irish taxi industry and left plates with no value. You need to note that you are not in Lagos now. If you are not happy, just move on.

  35. African Cabbieon 16 Dec 2012 at 12:25 pm

What have l got to do with Lagos ….or is that not in Nigeria?
Moreover, you would have noticed that you sound “Bitter and angry” about this Taxi job!

So it is “we” that ruined the industry? Like we work at the Regulator, right? ‘Daft’ is your middle name.

And please dont self-immolate, l dont want to feel sorry for you.

  36. Benon 16 Dec 2012 at 12:52 pm

Look forward to seeing you people gone from the industry. Party is over for illegal scumbags.

  37. Royon 16 Dec 2012 at 9:05 pm

AF, Taxi drivers are creatures of habit and if they find a spot that works well for them they’ll keep returning, sometimes that spot is illegal, if a garda has a word with you and tells you to move on, and then a half an hour later returns to find you there again, that tends to be when you get “picked on” and yes they can pick you and/or your vehicle out from the 10,000 or so in Dublin.
I know I can, I see the same individuals drive past the queue of drivers, on the Green to park outside the Dandelion, I know their faces and I know their vehicles, they obviously think they are more entitled than other mortals

  38. sidewinderon 17 Dec 2012 at 3:48 am

  40. C5on 17 Dec 2012 at 11:21 am

Guys have a look at thejournal.ie,about the new rules next year and the blogs at the end of people bitching about taxis.

  41. Benon 17 Dec 2012 at 11:47 am

Just read that, and it seems we are obliged to take the shortest route as of next year. Is this a joke, or what.

  42. African Cabbieon 17 Dec 2012 at 1:31 pm

    @Roy:
And do you purport that it is ONLY Taxi drivers of African Origin …(dark skin color to be specific as that is the only “immediate identification” l can see the Corper using) that do what you say, at the Dandelion or other places where some illegal ranking is done? Yes or No.

Like l said before, only hard evidence would expose and solve this issue, as time goes on.

  43. African Cabbieon 17 Dec 2012 at 1:58 pm

    @C5:
I like every other person, l went to the journal.ie link you provided and found comments very interesting …. in that it agrees with what l hear most passengers tell me when in my Cab (as against what some bitching Taxi drivers say here!).

I will paste just three comments from therein, here:

Eoin Naughton 1 hour ago #
    Report this comment 7 33

On Saturday night I got a taxi home (for the second time in a week and it was a foreign national – who I think are probably more honest than the native taxi drivers) The first time the brought me one way which was is longer mainly due to traffic lights/speed bumps and the second one where there is not and you would expect to be quicker (checking google maps its quicker by two mins)
I was charged the same, and in the second cab the taxi driver offered me the choice of which route to take and said that he always asks the customer which is the best route. I have never experienced that with some of the native taxi drivers.
Plus the foreign nationals actually are better to chat to, at times!

very similar experiences with foreign taxi drivers here more open and honest. Irish local drivers seem too streetwise and have every trick covered.
while I know it’s unfair to tar all taxi drivers with same brush I have to go on my own experiences.

AJ Finnin 36 minutes ago #
    Report this comment 2 2

Ditto with foreign taxi drivers plus they are interesting to talk with and they don’t complain half as much as the natives.

    End of comment.

    On the shortest route issue:
In my own case, l will tell the customer the route l intend to take (the best based on the current prevailing conditions : traffic congestion, lights, bumps, e.t.c) and ask the passenger if they agree or if they want to suggest an alternative route they prefer.
In most cases, they agree with me and on one occasion where the fare insisted l must take his route, we got stuck in traffic for 15mins and he was cursing himself while l just smiled and consoled him by saying that “Honest Taxi drivers have the benefit of hindsight and experience, when it comes to the road, as we may have passed that same route a few minutes before”.

  44. Royon 17 Dec 2012 at 2:33 pm

AF, where did I say anything about the colour of the drivers?
Anybody who is acting illegally can be ticketed, if you are acting illegally and caught you cannot use the excuse that other people are doing it and if the person being ticketed happens to be white or black it doesn’t matter a toss, what matters is are they behaving illegally? if so they deserve to be ticketed, if your argument is taken to it’s logical conclusion then only white drivers would be ticketed.
    If a driver doesn’t want a ticket … don’t do anything illegal, it’s simple.

  45. Benon 17 Dec 2012 at 2:43 pm

they are people that have not been conned by foreign drivers yet, but it will happen.

  46. African Cabbieon 18 Dec 2012 at 2:29 pm

@African Cabie: Dec. 16, 2012; 9:30am …”No Roy, l want EVERYONE who does something “illegal” to be ticketed”

The above is a verbatim quote of my post on the date and time indicated, you can still go up and peruse it.

If it was not ‘printed’, as on a computer screen, l would have wondered if my ‘handwriting’ was not legible but you just decided to ignore that part and went on a long winding argument, of something that was not even in dispute!
It was even written in CAPITALS, for emphasis!

The issue, which l am sure everyone understands but will rather shy away from is: whether its true that “selective application of the law”, is at play here.

It may just be more than a “coincidence” that the Guards always go for the “foreign taxi drivers” amongst all the offenders at any point in time!

Maybe like butterflies to Red roses, they find those foreign Taxi drivers “attractive and inviting” (lol)

BTW, if my argument is taken to its ‘natural and logical conclusion’, then ALL DRIVERS (irrespective of whether they are local or foreign) needs to be ticketed but it so happens that the locals are left off while the foreign ones are hounded down!

I am not asking you to concur with me (that will be asking too much) but then, “Conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it”.

    Cheers

    @Ben,
Those comments were made by members of the “public” who have entered Taxis driven by both local and foreign drivers. It seems the only place were foreign drivers are “devils” are in the minds of local drivers (who obviously have an axe to grind!) and the “tools” they employ to get at the foreign drivers.

Anyway, no matter what happens, we will still have public members who are open minded enough to say the truth, as it is.

  47. Benon 18 Dec 2012 at 3:36 pm

spokesman for african taxi drivers in Galway was jailed for 18 months last Friday for a sexual assault. he is a great example.

  48. African Cabbieon 18 Dec 2012 at 8:05 pm

    Sexual assault my foot!
Would that be one of your “do then-in at all and any cost” stories that you tell your passengers?

I recall that one of your Irish taxi drivers incited his daughter TO LIE against an African taxi driver of sexual assault, which she later confessed to making-up the story!

Is this another “manufactured” story from another taxi driver? What wont you guys do, just out of pure, racist hatred? Sheer madness.

Why dont you provide a credible link to your story so others can verify it?

I am even surprised that there is a “spokesman” for African taxi drivers, anywhere in Ireland?
As far as l know, “foreign” drivers dont tend to form association as their local counterparts who tend to use such gathering to further their racist agenda.

  49. C5on 18 Dec 2012 at 8:52 pm

African cabbie, ben is telling the truth, over the last three or four months alone there have been three other nigerian taxi drivers before the courts in galway, one was done for an assault on a collage girl, another was done for theft of an iphone plus his place was checked for drugs and the third one was done for sexual assault, and now a fourth one for sexual assault.its all been in the local papers the last few months and the last few years.

  50. Benon 18 Dec 2012 at 9:03 pm

C5 thats about 6 of them thats been jailed in Galway alone. That guy last week got a 6 month sentence first, and appealed it. Judge increased it to 18 months. Well done Your Honour. Of course ac will continue to deny this happened, but when you allow people from foreign countries to drive taxis without garda vetting, this is the end result.

  51. African Cabbieon 21 Dec 2012 at 9:08 am

All l have asked for is EVIDENCE that it happened.
That is how an intelligent person reason; You dont just conclude something is true just because someone said so!

having said that, l dont know why you’all keep harping about these Nigerians?
There must be something between ‘The Irish and the Nigerians’ afterall, they are not the only Africans in Ireland. They are just one, only one of the 54 Countries in Africa! Or is this a case of “inferiority complex”?

All l hear is Nigerian these, Nigerian that!….Even on the radio, its same thing!! Can you please talk about us as well? You are giving too much publicity to Nigerians and l dont welcome that.

To worsen matters, yesterday l carried a lady who says she just finished her PhD thesis in a U.K University and is on holidays back home in Ireland. During the course of our chatting she said she has quite a few Nigerians in her class and that they were exceptionally brilliant. She was so effusive about them that l had to tell her that we dont think highly of them over here in Ireland.

I wish she would get a dose of how Irish Taxi drivers think of them before she returns back to U.K.

On another level, l think the Guards are beginning to “show their hand” in these matters of double standard ….. and like l said, others will notice and EVIDENCE will prove it eventually.
Today, the Irish Examiner ran a story about how they just quash Penalty Tickets for their cronies and two of them eventually got killed in later motor accidents. Very unfair.

This is the link to the story.

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/quashed-points-drivers-went-on-to-kill-217625.html

So much for fairness. No wonder they are targeting ONLY foreigners.

  52. flybyniteon 22 Dec 2012 at 3:01 am

The level of the discussions here is absolutely below any standard, again nothing but back biting.
Yes, I have stories about drivers who fleeced their customers.
Yes, I have on or two that are first-hand, not hearsay about African drivers.
But then, I also have a few first-hand stories about – sorry to say – Irish drivers who ripped-off their fares.
So if I want I can be either biased for, or against immigrants (Africans) or if I were to chose I could tell stories about both and thus be totally neutral.
    Examples ?
    1. Rip-off African: On a Saturday night, past 3 am on my way back into town driving through Dartry. flagged down by a chap from way out of town (Donegal). I thought he had dropped off a girlfriend at Trinity Hall but no, he had flagged down a taxi outside Whelan’s. Destination Trinity. The African driver drove him all over the place and finally dropped him off at Trinity Hall. Charge 19 quid, so he told me. In the pitch dark the poor guy did not have a clue where he was. Fare all the way back to Trinity was 14 Euro – 12 on the meter when we passed Whelan’s from where he had started.
Ripped off by an African cabbie ? Absolutely.
    2. At a rank, I am no 6 or 7. A guy walks up and asks for an estimated price to an out of town destination. I give him a price which I know is well within the “ballpark”. He wants to get in but I tell him I am not at the front of the rank yet (even though I could have legally taken him, I always try to honour the rights of the guys in front of me). The guy tells me that he prefers my taxi. Fair enough, the law says that the customer has the right to pick any taxi. He gets in and I have to drive off very quickly because the other drivers are trying to block me and some are very big and are very aggressive. It turns out that the drivers in front of me, regulars at that rank, all had quoted a fare that was more than double what it should have been. A rip-off attempt by 6 or 7 Irish drivers (I know some of them, so I will leave it here or they will have a go at me when they see me next time).
Both stories are first hand, not hear-say. So you see guys, it works both ways. Not all Africans are honest but then, there are cheats amongst us as well if I want to be frank !

  53. African Cabbieon 22 Dec 2012 at 1:03 pm

    Thank you Flyby.
I always think it is wrong to ‘generalize’ and the focus should not even be on “how the driver looks” (foreign or local) but on ‘individual behavior’.

A lot of Irish customers always ask me that question (maybe because l am African, dont know whether they ask Irish drivers as well):
Do you think we Irish are very racist?

My answer to them has always been: You cant generalize on a whole race. I’ve met and do have wonderful Irish friends and l’ve met or know shitty ones (at least l can point a few ones here-in).

It is in this Taxi Industry that some folks make it their “full time job”, to denigrate all foreigners and would only highlight what is bad with a few examples they can lay their hands on.

I guess l cannot be faulted if l also point them in the “direction of their own face’, as well.

There are sour Apples in all Nationalities, that one Irish man ripped-off an old American lady of over 3million Dollars (promising to marry her and then plundering her bank account in her absence!), does not make every Irish man a crook.

But that is what my Irish Taxi drivers would conclude, if it were a foreign fella.

Just very unfortunate that we take our disgust for other human being to this level! Whether it is called racism (as it should be) or its is given another fancy name (like we are protecting our work! lol), it is still the same horrible mentality and attitude in display.

I beg to say that our Taxi industry descended into the pathetic state it is today, from the moment this attitude of “We, Locals Vs. Them, foreigners” started.
    Go check it out.

From that point, the mentality was ….. it is okay by “us”, for the Regulator to do and pass any silly Regulation, as long as it affects only “them”; ………forgetting that “What goes around, will eventually come around”!

Its still going around as we speak.

  54. Royon 22 Dec 2012 at 2:48 pm

Similarly I believe AC’s attack on the Gardai as uncalled for and selective. I find the Gardai to be fair when they decide to enforce the law, somebody must be first to be interviewed, I realise AC would like that to always be white Irish and it would be easy to suggest picking anyone other than Irish is somehow racist, I’d like to nip that particular suggestion in the bud,

  55. geron 22 Dec 2012 at 6:23 pm

Ac. when was that court case about the irish guy who “ripped off” 3 million $. Was he convicted? that is an alligation at the moment. that man has not been charged with any crime. the statement you made is slander. He has to have his day in court and be CONVICTED before you can make a statement like that. im very surprised at you. A person with your very high IQ should know that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. tut tut.

  56. Benon 22 Dec 2012 at 7:47 pm

Dont know why that ac does not go back to Africa, where he belongs. He hates everything, and everyone thats either or both white and Irish. He himself is the most racist person i have ever come across, there is almost hatred in him. I suppose its the council house, medical card, genourous welfare allowances etc that keep him here.

  57. patrick healyon 22 Dec 2012 at 10:19 pm

BEN once upon a time when IRELAND was pure AC had a good job in chivers now he feels bitter because MARY ROBINSON made him lose that nice job on the jam jars.

  58. Benon 22 Dec 2012 at 10:54 pm

Mary has a lot to answer for wink…wink..

  59. patrick healyon 22 Dec 2012 at 11:37 pm

    So has chivers ben

  60. bohemian boyon 23 Dec 2012 at 4:03 am

    ah feck it

  61. bohemian boyon 23 Dec 2012 at 7:06 pm

isnt it strange that every post published by ac is to do with racism, even when other posters have not even mentioned the subject . i must ask you ac , why do you keep banging on about how us irish hate you, and your fellow foreigners? how the gardai treat you differently? why your given fines and we are not ? do you have an inferiority complex by any chance?

  62. Benon 23 Dec 2012 at 10:20 pm

He just has an attitude problem, and hates everyone and everthing Irish. Only for the welfare freebies, he would have moved on long ago.

  63. patrick healyon 24 Dec 2012 at 3:49 pm

Ben ac send me a private e mail and he said he really resents Mary Robinson because all the family used to work one time in the jam business sadly he said all thats gone now you know something I feel sad too.

  64. Benon 24 Dec 2012 at 8:16 pm

Robinson screwed up again, cant get much right that woman

  65. flybyniteon 27 Dec 2012 at 2:20 am

    Well, here goes again !
And again: we must at least try to be honest and admit that there are two issues. Related, yes but also different.
Issue one is the hard fact that in any society that I am aware of, if immigrants are working in a particular sector it is OK so long as there is plenty of work to go around.
But if there is a downturn in the economy, the locals are seeing these immigrants as a threat to their existence and want them out. That is no different no matter whether it is – someone mentioned Nigeria, so Nigeria it will be for the example: Nigeria. The main problem here would be that some countries have a less developed economy and there probably never was any room for immigrant-taxi drivers in the first place but, if there were, they would not last long.
Here in Ireland we did have a booming economy and our beloved government handed out taxi licences to many, many immigrants.
I have already in an earlier discussion about the subject made it quite clear that, all things being equal, I would prefer to see these immigrants pack their bags, take their savings and return home.
But I must also admit that many of them are just trying to do the same thing that we are: just make an (honest) living. Many have made a commitment to this country, they want to stay here, work for a living and they pay their tax.
So issue two: we must at least try to be fair and admit that not all immigrants are dishonest.
And before you all go out crying about social welfare scamming and the like:
I have first-hand knowledge of at least two cases where a young IRISH “stud” fathered kids with more than one girl. They are not married and are not prepared to contribute even one cent to the upbringing of their offspring. Meaning that these IRISH girls are living off an unmarried mother’s allowance, get all sorts of social benefits whilst the father is the dole and is possibly prowling around to get yet another girl pregnant. There are quite a few similar cases in Dublin alone, I have them in my taxi regularly – and presumably so do you !
One father-to-be even had the gall to ask the midwives in Holles Street why the birth of his child took so long, it turned out he had another girl about “to pop” in the Coombe !
AC, do not make the mistake of thinking that I am totally on your side. I merely am trying to be neutral and fair. And I have the feeling that is sufficient !

  66. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 6:19 pm

Remember in the booming enconomy people were waiting hours to get a taxi and some people had to walk home in the cold & the rain as Irish taxi drivers were cherry picking there hours & the customers they wanted to pick up. And in the booming enconomy not a lot of Irish people wanted to work as a taxi driver. However are good non national friends decided to invest there money in the taxi industry and go and work in the taxi industry. I as an Irish man do not have a problem with non national drivers once they take the shortest route And anytime I pointed this out to any foreign taxi driver he applied discount without hesitation. But many Irish drivers have tried the same thing. When the economy was booming there was not so much moaning with reference foreign drivers now that Ireland is in recession a lot of Irish taxi drivers have complained about the number of licenses that the government has given out during our boom years. The rules and regulations are there for all taxi drivers. And the Minister has done a good job in improving the taxi industry in my opinion

  67. Benon 04 Jan 2013 at 7:03 pm

vat man you are talking total crap, no minister has done anything for the taxi industry. and talking of your foreign friends, they are the problem that needs to be tidied, they are the illegal ones.

  68. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 8:29 pm

I totally disagree with you Ben.Do you actually have evidence that the majority of illegal taxi drivers are foreign. The majority who were caught scamming the social welfare system while working as a full time taxi drivers were Irish. Minister Joan Burton has done excellent work with the Dept of social protection to ensure taxi drivers are claiming only there entitlements. Minister Alan Kelly has also done excellent work in my opinion to improve the taxi industry. The knowledge test is much more difficult for people who wish to apply for a PSV licence. Part time workers must notify there employers, multiple plate owners must register there leases online & the information is shared with the Dept of social protection & Revenue, taxi plates can only be leased out as a rental package however I see taxi plates been advertised on done deal at present maybe the plate owners are not aware of the new rules in place. What do you think Ben the Ministers have not done?

  69. Benon 04 Jan 2013 at 9:21 pm

they have done nothing, all this crap you talk about is not law yet

  70. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 9:59 pm

If you think so…..again I disagree with you but your entitled to your opinion

  71. Benon 04 Jan 2013 at 10:08 pm

ask if Kelly has signed this shit into law, he is a muppet

  72. Benon 04 Jan 2013 at 10:09 pm

you seem to be new to the business vat man

  73. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 10:36 pm

No I’m not driving a taxi Ben but I did they a look at the NTA website December update I think you should read it

  74. sclasson 04 Jan 2013 at 10:43 pm

Welcome to january it’s nice to see the lads back blogging after the christmas.
vat man your whinding us up.Kelly is a clown. The has discovered the taxi industry is in such a mess he cannot clean it up he is in a legal quagmire. Even if he is committed it won’t be any day soon. So vat man I would hold back on the phrases alan kelly is not the messiah yet.

  75. sclasson 04 Jan 2013 at 10:56 pm

Relax there Ben vat man is african cabbie with and new user name
By the way vat man why did the people walk home in the cold and why was their not enough taxis to take them home.

  76. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 11:01 pm

I don’t know about that sclass the Minister has a high number of taxi drivers leaving the industry. As for the new Acts the Taxi Regulation Bill 2012 replaces the Taxi Regulation Act 2003 it’s to be enacted in the next few weeks. And the Rental Operators portal will be online from the 7th January. Independent owner driver will have to log in there details to vehicle pps no insurance no ect from January 31st all details on nta website Decembers update

  77. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 11:02 pm

Believe me vat man is 100% Irish

  78. Vat manon 04 Jan 2013 at 11:10 pm

Well the reason they walked home in the cold in the boom years there was a lot less taxis on the road and taxi drivers were choosing which hours they wanted to work. It was not until 2006 onwards that a lot more taxi drivers entered the industry that things got better for the consumer. The evidence is there on boards.ie read the blogs sometime

  79. sclasson 04 Jan 2013 at 11:48 pm

With respect vat man I don’t need to read blogs to know the answer the reason they walk home was. Is all those years no government minister for transport no government minister period ever looked or cared or gave a fukk about the taxi business and that is why it is in such a state. And that is why they walked home. So what has changed the government still don’t give a fukk .

  80. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 1:06 am

The Government must care as the amount of work and money that was put in to setting up the NTA and reforming the Taxi Industry and amount of hard work bring in the new Taxi Regulation Bill 2012. You can’t knock Minister Kelly after all his Government inherited the mess the previous Government left behind. Ask yourself what mess the Taxi Industry would be in if the Government did nothing. In my opinion the Taxi Industry will be improved a lot by bringing in the new Taxi Regulation Bill 2012 and changes a long the way. Change will take time and in the long term you may agree what the Minister has done to improve the Industry.Taxi Drivers have been calling for a long time for the Government to do something now there wish is here

  81. sclasson 05 Jan 2013 at 3:56 am

NTA also inherited a lot of money they made from taxi drivers.

  82. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:32 am

vat man you dont have a clue whats going on in the taxi industry, just wonder what your real agenda is.

  83. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 7:36 am

The next wave is on the way. all the way from islamabad. Mark my words. a lot here, a lot more to come. in fact an endless supply.see all those domino pizza drivers. everyone of them wants to be a taxi driver in ireland. and their manager told me that.no proplem getting in to ireland. just give 5grand to some eastern euroslapper and they are in. and then the whole family is in. And uncles and aunts and granparents and cousins. and on and on its goes. treasure ireland is open to anybody who wants to come here. its a fooking joke. worse its going to get.

  84. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:58 am

we need to lock the doors and windows Ger, its really serious now.

  85. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 8:04 am

Too late ben. it would be like moving the deckchairs on the titanic.

  86. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:14 am

why does the government continue to allow scum into our country, most of them only come here for the welfare

  87. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 8:27 am

Thats the 1BILLION EURO question. its also the amount that they cost the IRISH TAXPAYER over the last number of years. we are an easy touch. or as they say themselves, stuipd irish pigs. thats the thanks we get. wont be long now until you know who is banging his drum.

  88. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 9:01 am

ya no gratitude, just keep demanding more and more, and then tell us we are racist Irish trash. we are fools that tolerate it.

  89. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 2:21 pm

To call any foreign national scum is a disgrace. I don’t think to many Irish taxi men would agree with that comment. As an irish man myself I certainly would not.It would be very silly to think that any foreign national would jump off a plane at Dublin airport and straight to the PSV office. I’d doubt not many if any foreign nationals that would just arrive in our country would pass the area knowledge test these days. Some foreign national have committed despicable crimes and have been rightly jailed for there actions and hopefully they will be deported on completion of there sentence. But most of the foreign nationals are law abiding citizens and to
Tar them all with the one brush is totally unjustied

  90. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 2:41 pm

A non EU National can not just arrive in Ireland and arrive at the Social welfare office the next morning that’s not how the process works. I once read on a blog from Irish taxi drivers that foreign nationals were getting a grant to purchase taxis after they passed the PSV knowledge test. More waffle that’s all it was. Some foreign national were successful in there application for BTWEA as were many of our own Irish nationals.

  91. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 5:17 pm

how can any foreign scumbag qualify for btwea, when they never worked or paid a cent tax here. you are a moron

  92. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 5:40 pm

Again Ben that is terrible language to use against any foreign national. How do you know they never paid any PAYE or PRSI contributions they may have before they claimed job seeker allowance. And they should be praised for the fact that they applied for the BTWEA rather than stay on benefits from the state. To call anyone a scumbag in my opinion is disgraceful. I also believe the NTA should bring in a rule were consumers are required to take the first taxi available on top of the rank rather than Choosing any taxi they require.Fairness and equality should be shown to all taxi drivers and not judged by race or colour

  93. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 5:54 pm

consumers have rights, remember that. you cannot force anyone into a taxi, if they dont feel comfortable with the driver.will you try to force people into the first pub on the street also. and these friends of yours come straight from africa to scrounge in Ireland. wake up you total clown.

  94. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 6:19 pm

I think you need help Ben. Why don’t you write to Minister Joan Burton with point of views I’m sure she would have a good laugh. I think if you had your way Ben you’d have every foreign nationals PSV revoked and sent back to there country. Sorry Ben that’s not going to happen they are entitled to live and work here as we Irish citizens do. The scroungers are the people who Commit welfare fraud and I do accept a small number foreign nationals have committed welfare fraud and in serious cases I think they should be jailed or deported. But the majority of foreign nationals are law abiding citizens in this country. Foreign taxi drivers always have a receipt roll in there taxi meter they always have clean cars and dress well they always have a full safety kit with the extinguisher refilled or replaced when it’s due.
I think Irish taxis could take a leaf out of the foreign nationals book. I wonder if the inspectors did a survey to find out who was non compliant in the taxi industry I have the feeling Irish taxi drivers would have a lot of fixed penalties

  95. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 6:24 pm

Irish drivers can no long have Stickers of Irish flags or stickers stating irish driver or green lights in the signs fixed penalties if caught. Well done NTA to Fairness & Equality

  96. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 6:27 pm

Bleeding heart do gooder springs to mind. vat off.

  97. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 6:34 pm

I’m a good church goer who believes in love thy neighbour as thy self. Take a leaf out of my book and you will be much happier in life

  98. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 6:40 pm

I have an IRISH FLAG STICKER on my taxi and NOBODY is going to tell me to take it off. Its passed every sgs . im proud to be irish. theres a taxi in dublin going around with the words “BLACK PADDY” on the roof sign. not a word about that. now if i had “WHITE PADDY” on my roof sign what do ya think would happen. little leo and all the dogooders and bleeding heart gobshites would fook their rattles outta their prams and be shouting racism, like the pack of fooking goons they are.

  99. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:10 pm

fuk thy neighbour look out for yourself and fuk the do gooders

  100. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:18 pm

I think the NTA policy is no advertisement of any sort from any taxis drivers.just new door signs rule brought in which is long over due. I just think the taxi the fares are to expensive the NTA need to lower the tariff on taxi fares in line with europe I think the minimum fare should be €3.50 by day & €3.80 by night

  101. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 7:32 pm

Ur a troll vat man. go to mass and say a prayer for yourself.

  102. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:33 pm

for a man that does not own, or drive a taxi, you seem to be an expert on the business. what do you think the door signs will achieve

  103. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:43 pm

and now you are inspecting safety kits in african taxis. what a sad jerk. join a lonely hearts club, you would be perfect for them

  104. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 7:54 pm

I will say a prayer for you Ger I’d say you taxi drivers need one to be said for you even though you are all doing well. I found it difficult to get a taxi over Christmas. As for the door signs it encourages professionalism & accountability in the taxi industry. I have friends in the taxi business and some agree with point of view and some don’t. I do believe in the long term the taxi regulation bill 2012 will be shown that the right moves were put forward to greatly improve the taxi
    Industry

  105. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 8:00 pm

Thanks for that vat man. also say a prayer that every illegal, double jobber, cherrypicking, tax doddger, scumbag, drugdealer, pimp, and gobshite is put off the road in 2013. Good lad.

  106. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:01 pm

Oh God Ben your so funny reading most of these comments I found most of them not to make any sense. Everything that is proposed from the Minister but nearly all gets passed. I’m not sure what more Alan can do for the taxi drivers. If you can’t make a living in your employment maybe it’s time you tried a career change

  107. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:11 pm

Well that’s what the taxi regulation bill 2012 Ger hope to do with the help of compliant taxi drivers you can make change by reporting any taxi drivers that you feel may not be compliant to the NTA. Together you will succeed Professionalism Encouragement and Accountability is the key

  108. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:11 pm

taxi regulation bill 2013, and you are on first name terms with Alan, thats nice. Odd pint with Leo as well, i presume. i wonder if taxis in your area were busy, or just reluctant to carry you.

  109. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 8:16 pm

Vat man, what is it that your goodself does for a living? Your not a taxi driver right? What do you do apart from sticking your nose into a subject that has nothing to do with you? let me guess, ya flip burgers in mickey ds?

  110. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:17 pm

The restaurant manager said they were busy which is a good sign but my friends driver picked us up from the restaurant and brought us home

  111. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:21 pm

    That’s a secret but I don’t work in Mc Donald’s I’m a former civil servant

  112. Benon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:27 pm

you sound like a total crank, i bet not one driver wanted to carry you

  113. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:33 pm

Not at all plenty of taxis I guess the taxis were busy that night I never usually have a problem getting taxis for all you know Ben if your a Dublin taxi driver you probably picked me up before

  114. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 8:41 pm

I don’t need a taxi this weekend lads just having a few days off in my holiday home in the west

  115. bohemian boyon 05 Jan 2013 at 10:30 pm

this bloke vat man sounds like he is stoke on trent [bent] ben id say if you did pick him up over christmas, it was probably around the george, or thr dragon

  116. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 10:50 pm

Are you making innuendo’s with reference to people of the Gay Community or people who walk past the George or the Dragon Bar I bet if some one flagged you down outside these Bars you would not refuse a taxi fare.

  117. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 11:02 pm

Holiday home in the west= former civil servant= big pension. Nice one. dont forget to pay your property tax. vat man. while we poor slaves worry about where our next tank of diesel is coming from.. or how we are going to pay the next esb bill. have a nice holiday in the west. mind ya dont get sunburned.

  118. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 11:13 pm

I hear authority inspectors & Gardai may be handing out a fixed charge for taxi drivers who drive with there sign off as it is taxed as a public service vehicle it is not meant to be used for private use & god for bid you have an accident technically your not insured. I also welcome the fact under the new taxi regulation bill were taxi drivers will only be allowed to work a certain number of hours a week and a fixed charge and penalties points due to come in the coming weeks. I think taxi drivers have to take 1 days rest after 2 11 hour shift but still I hear of taxi drivers working 12 hours per day 7 days per week that is illegal and putting the consumers lives at risk it needs to be strongly enforced in my opinion

  119. sclasson 05 Jan 2013 at 11:27 pm

Vat man your a windup go for a long walk up the sallygap or some where.

  120. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 11:29 pm

Ger I welcome the property tax. The boom years are not here anymore the Government have done a brilliant job getting our debt down. And Ireland will be back in the markets by the end the year. Companies are also starting to invest money in ireland again. You comment about you poor slaves I don’t accept it’s that bad the fleet of 2010 2012 taxis around the place surely the owners are not purchasing luxury cars like this if they can’t pay the diesel or esb. I’d say you taxi drivers made good money in the month of December.

  121. Vat manon 05 Jan 2013 at 11:37 pm

I do enjoy my walks thanks sclass I do enjoy taking my short breaks away in the west of the country I’m not a great sun lover Ger Ireland has a lot more to offer in my opinion

  122. geron 05 Jan 2013 at 11:47 pm

Vat man, if anything you are funny. me thinks u are ac after taking a big bag of pills and a few too many shorts. but u are funny.. anybody that thinks fine gael has done a “wonderful job” is cracked in the head. bless your little socks. me, id like to see them all hang by there big fat necks. that day might just yet come. who the fook do they think they are?

  123. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 12:05 am

No Government will be popular with everyone in recession times Ger but Fine Geal have turned that corner and Ireland is on the road to recovery. And no I’m not African Cabbie

  124. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 12:14 am

    Is feider linn

  125. geron 06 Jan 2013 at 1:17 am

    No we bleedin can’t.

  126. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:28 am

    Change takes time think positively

  127. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:24 pm

Fine Gael & Labour will get this country back on it’s feet well done Enda

  128. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:32 pm

Kenny is a total asshole, its all about pleasing the troika. one term government only

  129. bohemian boyon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:32 pm

to hell with the labour party . i would NEVER vote for them for two reasons. firstly they are anti catholic church and want the church out of ireland, and secondly they are more concerned with securing the rights and welfare of foreigners then they are with their own irish people so to hell with labour

  130. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:37 pm

Labour have lost their way, and their values, they will be wiped out at the next election

  131. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 1:38 pm

Do you think Sinn Fein would be any better what state would the country be in if they were in Government

  132. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 2:07 pm

I disagree sorry lads. I don’t think they will be wiped out as who is going to replace them Fianna Fail we seen the damage they done while they had years in Government. As for the independents up the back they don’t have a clue what there on about half the time.Troika Olli Rehn as done a lot of good work for Ireland in my opinion. What state would Ireland be in if the senior bond holders were burnt. Think about it

  133. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 2:23 pm

bondholders should have been burned, they knew the risk why are ordinary working people paying debts incurred by corrupt banks and builders

  134. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 2:30 pm

Take a good look at Greece that might help you. Who wants to invest there not to many wouldn’t you think

  135. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 2:36 pm

i am happy to pay my own bills, but not some other persons

  136. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 5:24 pm

But your not paying any other persons bills. Are you?

  137. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 6:33 pm

    what about Sean Fitzpatricks bills?

  138. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 7:14 pm

    What about them?

  139. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 7:29 pm

we are all paying anglo bills remember the promissory notes

  140. Vat manon 06 Jan 2013 at 7:34 pm

Sure they have to be paid but a deal will be done on them and they will be paid over the long term. That deal was done with the previous government

  141. Benon 06 Jan 2013 at 9:17 pm

but they still have to be paid, and current muppets paid bondholders billions despite election promises

  142. Vat manon 07 Jan 2013 at 2:19 am

That’s why you should never believe what you read & hear. I’m not sure they were not promises but statements were made sure most politicians do the same. A lot of waffle but there doing there best bless them

  143. African Cabbieon 08 Jan 2013 at 4:55 am

    This thread is very funny!
Vat man is a funny dude too!

One thing that makes me laugh is that EVERYONE (from Roy, to Flybi, e.t.c) that says anything that the crew of ben, ger. e.t.c dont agree with, is labeled as “A.C” in disguise!
That tells me that “A.C” must be saying the truth!

Now, it Vat man’s turn to be called A.C! (lol)

Anyway, “Conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it”.

@ben; You were wondering how these “foreigners” got shiny, new taxis? Well, did you forget you were one of those who lobbied the Regulator to impose a 3-year rule on them? (while you are okay with a 15year old car!). Thats why! They struggled and labored to obey the law… and bought nearly brand new taxis.
No matter how bad the vindictiveness is, “some good” will always come out of it (and the customers love these clean, new, shiny vehicles a lot!)

@Flybynite: I dont not for one moment wish that you be in “my support”. The best you can do, like Vat man, is to “be fair to all” and speak that which is true, ALWAYS.
So far, you have really tried. Keep it up.

Happy New Year to ALL Taxi drivers.

  144. geron 08 Jan 2013 at 6:47 am

Sweet jesus your back. you must have been busy counting the 1400 euro you made in dec by 5. Thats 7 grand. vat man speaks the truth.

  145. bohemian boyon 08 Jan 2013 at 8:51 am

ben acording to my friend who works in harcourt terrace your suspicions that such a situation involving foreigners exist , is well founded, and will be dealt with in the near future

  146. bohemian boyon 08 Jan 2013 at 9:38 am

problem is ben, the race card will be played as usual . this is why there is no clanpdown on foreigners . the days of caide meile failta are gone, and people in high places need to realize that, we cant look after our own at the moment , never mind half of africa, and china, and eastern block countries. when we used to give a penny for the black babies years ago in school, we never though they were going to come over to thank us personally did we?

  147. Benon 08 Jan 2013 at 9:45 am

Race card has to be ignored, time for the bullshit to stop. If you are illegal, you pay the price. Why should honest Irish drivers suffer because of illegal foreign people.

  148. African Cabbieon 08 Jan 2013 at 9:12 pm

“Willful-ignorance, .. and racism” is truly a “bad mix”!

    All “Non-white/ non-irish” drivers = Illegal
All “White irish” drivers = Legal

Hmmmm…. l forgot, its not about racism, its just about any other thing! (lol)

  149. Benon 09 Jan 2013 at 6:35 am

pull the racist card, usual crap but we are all getting bored with it now

  150. African Cabbieon 09 Jan 2013 at 9:42 pm

I am not pulling any racist card, your ‘comments here and in other places’, show what you guys are.

Go look in the mirror and tell me what you see, you ignorant and racist Bigot.

  151. Benon 09 Jan 2013 at 9:48 pm

there you go with the racist word again. you cant go 5 mins without calling someone racist you are really sad. when i look in the mirror, i see a proud Irishman.

  152. geron 09 Jan 2013 at 9:49 pm

Be nice ac. we were nice to you when you landed on your non direct filght from africa. treasure island of the thousand ( euro welfare cheques) welcomes.

  153. geron 09 Jan 2013 at 10:03 pm

We just didnt know there was another 100,000 of ya on the way over. for fiddle sticks.

  154. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 8:16 am

thankfully the door has been closed to them now but those that got in are surely milking the welfare system

  155. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 12:01 pm

are they blocked now ben ?

  156. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 1:33 pm

Boh theres only a few getting in now, rest of applications are rejected. Saw figures in the paper recently. Too many of them let in already, and they are costing us taxpayers a fortune in handouts. UK wont let them in either, too much grief with them.

  157. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 2:17 pm

If they are willing to come to our country to work and pay taxes to the Irish exchequer I think that should be allowed. However only when Ireland come out of recession. I would not agree with anyone arriving in Ireland from a non EU country to milk are generous welfare system.I think the Irish baby boom helped a lot of non nationals being allowed to stay in Ireland. Micheal mc Dowell had the laws changed to stop the influx of refugees from arriving at our shores in most cases pregnant and for his troubles he lost his seat.
It’s not the non nationals fault the laws was so relaxed it was the Goverment of the day.Since that the law was changed a lot less refugee’s have been granted Asylum. Granting of a GNIB card may have been a better option

  158. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 2:31 pm

I have great time for Pakistani & Indian taxi drivers they are honest polite & very hard working and in my opinion i would like to see more like them. I have no doubt there are a lot of Irish taxi drivers like that to but far & few between. I always find expert taxis the best to deal with there very professional

  159. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 2:57 pm

no foreign people of any nationality should get work permits for Ireland at present keep jobs for Irish people. vat man if you want to travel with foreign taxi drivers, then emigrate.

  160. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 3:14 pm

Ben some Irish people don’t want to take up employment,They’d rather stay on welfare. We hear about it every day employers advertising vacancies and the majority of people that turn up for interview are foreign nationals. €10 per hour is not an acceptable salary of most Irish people when they turn up for interview & some don’t even turn up at all. Ask hotel managers bar & restaurant owners they will explain it to you even ask taxi base owners who are looking to employ good drivers

  161. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 3:50 pm

some employers offer well below the minimum wage, so only foreigners with welfare and free accomadation can take those jobs. keep the foreign people out, problem solved

  162. African Cabbieon 10 Jan 2013 at 4:03 pm

    @Vat man:
No matter what you say, those three have gone beyond “redemption”.
They are the first to mention words like calling foreign nationals “scumbag” (and l know you have corrected them a few times up there but they are irredeemable!) or say things like ship them out, e.t.c
But when l point it out to them that what they are saying is “racist”, they start whining that l am ‘pulling the racist card’!

    Is that not shameful?
Some of them have agreed they are racist, in prior comments …and l do tell them it is not okay to be racist…. they then turn around to accuse me of ‘pulling the racist card’?

Thing is, there are Irish nationals everywhere (Australia, America, Canada, U.K, just name it!. Even working on lucrative contracts in poor African countries) so, why is it a problem when “foreign nationals” work here LEGALLY? ….if not for racism?
How would Ireland have survived the ‘boom years’ when there are more jobs than people, if not for the foreign nationals that took up the lower paid jobs that Irish locals will not touch? …but now these guys think they should be shipped-out, right?
What about if we say all Irish in those other countries be shipped back to Ireland right now…imagine what would happen?

As long as l pay my taxes and do everything legitimately, there is nothing anyone can do about me or about peeps like me. You dont want a job, yet you dont others to do the same job? Crazy, isn’t it?

They dont like to be told the truth and prefer to wallow in their ignorance and bigoted little minds.

I hope they realize and stop being angry all the time they see or hear a foreigner, because its not good for their health.

  163. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:01 pm

ac you said it yourself irish people would not take the lower paid jobs , so foreigners did it instead . let me point out to you ,because of this we now have a situation where the minimum rate no longer exist, because you lot were prepared to work for less .irish ferries being a prime example .you have fooked it up for the irish people who were on the minimum rate , and who now have to work for half of that. this is just another way in which you have interfered with the workers of this country

  164. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:20 pm

lots of these foreign workers who accept a fiver an hour are illegal in the country no pps number no permit they need to caught and deported. vat man you have a new buddy in ac, god help you

  165. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:22 pm

he is off with his racist crap again, what a sad person

  166. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:32 pm

i think its very noticable that 90% of africans only seem to do nights .the reason is people cannot see at night who is driving.if they could they would not get in.now if it was me who stopped a taxi driven by a brother,i would STILL tell him to fook off ,i only support my own

  167. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:50 pm

    @ African Cabbie

I agree with you 100% you and your non national friends that hold a PSV licence have the same entitlements as any Irish person. I would ignore the comments made against non national drivers made by a few narrow minded people because the majority of Irish people & taxi drivers do not think the same, if this was the case foreign taxi drivers would have been out of business as they would not be earning much income. Any taxi driver that would admit to being racist is not fit & proper person to hold a PSV licence in my opinion. However I don’t think African Cabbie they are really racist as I believe they would never refuse to take a an African person to the airport if they were requested to do by a customer & I bet they would be nice as pie to them. I believe by the comments I have read with reference to foreign nationals is a form of bullying and is totally unacceptable in my opinion. I believe this bully boy comments made against foreign nationals should be stopped immediately.

Racists are cowards that hide behind a mask and they will never be accepted in society

Irish Law protects that nobody should be judged on Race Colour Gender or Sexual Orientation

Equal rights apply to all in our Irish State & shame on those who think differently

I am an Irish Citizen born in Ireland if anyone does not agree with my comments I’m sorry that just to bad, in other words tough

  168. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:54 pm

easy to hide at night when you are illegal have no psv or insurace just typical african

  169. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 5:59 pm

No Ben by the comments I have read against foreign nationals African Cabbie is not the sad person at all. I think some people are digging a big hole for themselves

  170. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:02 pm

are you looking to take mary robinsons title as leader of the bleeding hearts brigade vat man? she had to fight hard for it you know

  171. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:25 pm

I think Mary Robinson is admired by many around Ireland and across the world I do admire the work she has done

  172. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:34 pm

he cannot open his mouth without shouting racism, he is a muppet just like Robinson who brought them here. a lot of people around the world dont see the mess she created here

  173. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:40 pm

The present & previous Governments have spoken very highly of Mrs Robinson

  174. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:46 pm

she is a fool for bringing those africans here costing the country a fortune

  175. Vat manon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:51 pm

The Governments present & past I’m sure would not agree with you also a lot of the public

  176. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 6:55 pm

i would like to see the response the knuut would get if she ever knocked on doors looking for votes for her beloved labour party . especially in areas where irish people cant get a job

  177. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 7:07 pm

the public even have a beely full of their arrogance, they came with cap in hand, and now they call us white trash. thats despite all the handouts they get here, houses, medical cards, all sorts of allowances that Irish people dont get. they should all be deported.

  178. bohemian boyon 10 Jan 2013 at 7:15 pm

ben blame the politians who dont have the balls to deport them they have to be seen to appease their european , and asian masters.unfortunatly robinson was in a high position as well , and put pressure on them to open the flood gates to allow them in .may she rot in hell

  179. Benon 10 Jan 2013 at 7:30 pm

hell is where she belongs Boh, and all our politicians dont have a pair of balls between them

  180. Vat manon 11 Jan 2013 at 1:37 am

The politicians are working day & night trying the country out of recession and in my opinion are doing a good job. I’m sure they understand no matter what they do some people will never be happy.

  181. African Cabbieon 11 Jan 2013 at 3:25 am

Thank you Vat Man, you are a true representative of the Irish spirit.
Like you rightly observed, loads of Irish people are not like the Taxi drivers we have on this site!
If truly, every Irish person thinks like these guys, how come they still enter Taxis driven by Foreigners ….and even speak highly (positively) about them?

I did quote a snippet of comments by Irish fares, earlier on. Very positive. That we can still remain in the business is a credit to those Irish people who know better than the few narrow-minded ignoramus seen here.

Again, you made another very important observation: Will all these “bully-boyz” refuse a foreign/black customer if he or she enters their Taxi or will they refuse to take the money from a black hand? I know they wont.

Thus, their problem is a “mental problem” even though because they hide behind a computer, masquerade it as a racist one! Thank you for pointing that out.

We have no choice than to continue to educate them because their bitterness is affecting their health but they know not!

@Boh: You have completely missed the point, about my comment (Foreigners take on “low paid” jobs that Irish locals will not do).

The issue is not about the money the job is offering (For example, a chartered Accountant earns a higher wage than say a Door Security Supervisor).
Thus, if there were ten openings for a security job and only one opening for an Accountant, irish lads will not even submit a C.V for the Security job but would all submit for the Accountancy post. Thus, the Business owner of that Secuirty outfit is left with a ‘staff crisis’ and will lose his Security contract ….if not that foreigners who have the legal right to work in this country via their GNIB cards, wont be so choosy, they will take up that job.

Mind you, they would still collect the same per-hour rate as any Irish man who opts to take the job. This is where your analysis went awry!

Employer are thus very happy, just like Taxi customers who hitherto, have to wait for hours before getting a Taxi home in the dead, cold night, that Foreigners embraced the request for more labor in this country.

Now that things are tight, the solution is not to deport them as you suggested (no sane Government would do that, not even the American or British Govt deported Irish people, in the middle of their own recession!) ….but to create more jobs so that whiners like you would have something to do …if your eternal greed would still not make you angry!

Let us leave Governance and Policy making to well educated and experienced folks ….. not some dodgy Taxi driver whose greatest achievement in life is just to turn a car steering and apply the brakes on sighting any thing that moves on a sidewalk! (lol).

  182. bohemian boyon 11 Jan 2013 at 4:03 am

ben is right you,and that other yoke vat man, area pair of pratts .get your leader mrs robinson to join you, and you can have a threesome

  183. Benon 11 Jan 2013 at 6:07 am

ac has latched onto vatman as predicted, similar pair of assholes with their heads in the sand. and the thought of an african from a mud hut in lagos, educating an Irish person makes me feel sick. vatman does not represent Irish spirit, he talks a bucket of shite after his bottle of red wine in the afternoon.obviously a man with problems.

  184. Benon 11 Jan 2013 at 8:14 am

great news today 40,000 people are to loose their medical cards. lets hope they are the foreign people who came here for the welfare handouts, medical cards, council houses etc etc. maybe Burton has woke up at last, and Dicey Reilly.

  185. African Cabbieon 12 Jan 2013 at 8:05 am

@Ben: “the thought of an african from a mud hut in lagos, educating an Irish person makes me feel sick.” End of quote.

And if l may ask, what if you go to the Hospital and it is an African man that is the Doctor to attend to you ( l see a lot of them as Doctors and Nurses, in the general Hospital) …. Would you rather die? (lol).

From your post above, l think one of your many problems is that you think just by being “Irish” (just that only!), you are superior to all Africans? How daft can that be?

And are you one of those who suddenly realize that President Obama was related to you, now that he is POTUS? His father is African (and he is by Origins) if you can recall.

Ignoramus like you make people say bad things about the Irish but people like Vat man remind us that there are still good people in all races.
Well, you can be sick as you want, it does not change the fact that you and your gang are ignorant racists!

  186. geron 12 Jan 2013 at 8:44 am

Ben. vat mans new best very special friend is looking for you. something to with a mudhut and racists. i dunno. Me thinks he is gone nuts on d wine..

  187. Benon 12 Jan 2013 at 11:11 am

racist bigot you mean, as always or have you been on the wine with your new buddy. and my doctor of 35 years, is Irish, and white of course. i am not related to Obama, thank you. more wine ?

  188. Benon 12 Jan 2013 at 12:19 pm

just read the last post by ac here, and as always, it contains the racist word. just why does that man stay in Ireland, perhaps he cannot go back to africa as his past life of crime will come back to haunt him. just like so many of his brothers. they all hate Irish people, even the welfare officers who they verbally abuse, in an effort to intimidate. now there are quite a few who cannot go back, as they are in Mountjoy, or similar places of detention. the old saying about the leopard and the spots is very true. they behaved for a while when they got into Ireland, but now they are back to their old ways, and life of crime. when they are released, they will be going home permanently, as in deported. slowly but surely, ac and his brothers are showing their true colours, just as i predicted some years ago. how could any country, or government be so foolish as to allow thousands of total strangers from the other side of the world, into our country, without garda vetting. and then hand them a psv licence, still with no vetting, and let them loose, posing as taxi drivers. i have lost count of the number of africans who have been jailed in my area for various offences, including sexual assaults. others think its ok to drive their taxis without insurance or psv licence etc. minor stuff they say. thats what Robinson and out previous disgraced fianna fail muppets have given us. the fools in power now are no different, and the taxi industry continues to go down the tubes.when will the nta, and the gardai take action, and eliminate all illegal activity. all it takes is a blitz of taxis for a few weeks, seize a few illegal cars, prosecute the drivers, and jail them. deport the foreign ones. thats all it would take to clean up to industry, but unfortunately, no one seems interested anymore. shame on you Alan Kelly.

  189. African Cabbieon 12 Jan 2013 at 6:29 pm

A “White Supremacist” is a person who thinks that by virtue of the “white color of his skin”, he is superior to any other humanbeing who is not white skinned”.

Ben, you are sounding more and more like that White Supremacist from Utoya, who killed close to eighty people, without any genuine reason!

Point of correction, l or any other foreigner does not and cannot hate “Irish people”. You are only saying that to generate rabid sympathy and comradeship. You cant hate a whole race of people! You may have differences with a few individuals, then that is it.

You blame and attack just about anyone who does not agree with your asinine line of thinking, NTA, Gardai, Mary Robinson, Fiana Fail, A.C., and now it is Vat man’s turn? ….and you are nothing but a simpleton of a Taxi Driver, huh?

I wonder what the Gardai will think of you, if you come here to accuse them of handing out PSV License, without Vetting the foreigners, knowing fully well that they do vet?

By your own account, you say a lot of Africans are in jail? Knowing that Africans in Ireland (adults, male and female) number less than 4,000, how come we still see them on the streets or did you import another batch?

Dont let your anger make you come across as foolish, even if you are!
You think you should be treated differently and it is this “sense of entitlement” that is making you angry and mad!
You are lazy and a coward, you cant even stand competition! Why dont you go to Australia or Canada or U.K or U.S (if you are too chicken to come to Africa!) and tell them to drive away everyone for you, so that you can be the only Taxi in town?

I feel sorry for your likes ‘cos you may soon burst a pipe, if you keep going on this way!

  190. geron 12 Jan 2013 at 7:17 pm

4000? Where did you get that figure from? In the whole country? I dont think so. maybe 4000 in blanchardstown alone. did ya miss a couple of zeros there mr ac?

  191. Benon 12 Jan 2013 at 7:58 pm

theres about 4000 them in a centre behind the dept of education in Athlone, and have been there for about 15years costing us millions. likewise the eglinton hotel in salthill in galwa is jammed with them. as was the ibis until shatter closed it, and they all shouted racism.usual shite. get your figures right asshole, you are in denial. you people are robbing this country.

  192. Benon 12 Jan 2013 at 8:03 pm

Gardai were forced to hand you lot a psv licence byour previous government to get you working, and into society. thats common knowledge that you all got in the back door, no test, and no vetting. hence the mess the business is in today.

  193. geron 12 Jan 2013 at 8:12 pm

Ben. go into daily mail on line. read the wonderful story about the pakistani taxi driver who robbed a blind women of 300 quid. she asked him to take money out of the atm. and guess what, when he was caught he cried racism. At least he got his taxi licence revoked. why do they all play the race card? He is nothing but a common filthbag robber.

  194. Benon 12 Jan 2013 at 10:01 pm

race card is played out Ger, it used to open doors for them, and we would all back down, and let them away with murder. african taxi driver punched a female Irish taxi driver and knocked her out cold at train station in Galway about 4 years ago. he told the cops she was racist, because she asked him politly to move his car, as he had her blocked in. total scumbag, judge threw the book at him. he is off the road now thank god. one scumbag less. that pakistani towrag should be jailed, then deported. out and dont ever come back. few horror stories also about africans going wrong routes to overcharge, the shout racism when row starts over crazy fare. people have copped on to them now, and not taking the shit anymore.

  195. bohemian boyon 13 Jan 2013 at 11:35 am

we should all point out to the irish taxi users to support their own drivers ,and by doing this, they would be subscribing to govt poli
cy of buy irish, support irish jobs sure its posted everywhere , even in christys shop window in fair city , BUY IRISH

  196. Benon 13 Jan 2013 at 12:18 pm

we should have it on our cars, but then some people will start shouting racism, usual shit. time to remind those muppets what country they are in, and who has home advantage. LOVE IRISH BUY IRISH

  197. Vat manon 13 Jan 2013 at 4:33 pm

Any driver convicted of a serious criminal offence as described above are not fit & proper to hold a PSV licence in my opinion. However I think the majority of foreign taxi drivers are decent and hard working just trying to make an honest living just like the majority of the Irish taxi drivers

  198. bohemian boyon 13 Jan 2013 at 6:01 pm

well let them make their living in their OWN country . there is not enough work for our own people, never mind the half of africa thay live here ,and continue to milk the state

  199. Benon 13 Jan 2013 at 6:17 pm

take all state handouts off them, medical cards, and council houses. they will disappear very quickly.

  200. African Cabbieon 14 Jan 2013 at 7:26 am

I recall that you once said, in relation to “Hailo”, that you will say about anything, even lie and cook up stories to customers, just to discourage them from using the App”.
Now for someone who can descend so low, can anyone trust all those stories you posted up there? No way!

BTW: If only you could be smart enough to go into the Welfare offices and ask them to supply you with facts and figures, you will be shocked concerning who are the ones on welfare, Council houses, medical, e.t.c … the most!

Most foreigners are used to surviving on their own without any form of state-aid. It is helpful but our lives dont depend on it and we shelve it as soon as possible. We have lot of dignity you know!
Thats why we will rather drive a taxi, than be on Social Welfare.
If you succeed in preventing us from working, of course, we will have no choice than to go on welfare (lol).
Which is better? ..but honestly, we ain’t going in this together, for the very long haul.

  201. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 7:54 am

more bullshit you muppets drive taxis and scrounge social welfare, you cannot survive on your own.only reason you africans are in Ireland is the welfare and that will stop eventually. if the government dont have money for services for native Irish people, why should imports like you get anything. give us the figure that you are costing Irish taxpayers every week, between various allowances like dole, or btwea. then your council house, medical card, child allowance, fuel, esb, travel vouchers, etc etc. and you people get all these handouts having been brought here by Robinson, being the fool that she is. you are not here long term, holiday will end soon. does ac stand for african clown ?

  202. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 1:00 pm

I have made enquiries about part time work as a taxi driver & a very nice gentle man in a taxi base was very helpful & offered a job part time subject to PSV licence and cost of insurance. The best news I had in weeks

  203. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 2:18 pm

i think we should change your name to pratt man, it would suit ya better

  204. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 3:39 pm

Why is that surely nobody begrudge me doing 20 hours per week part time work

  205. geron 14 Jan 2013 at 4:43 pm

Vat man, thats a wonderful idea, now all you need is a car, prozac and a brain examination. i think you would make a great taxi driver. you might have to cut back on your wine intake. maybe to a bottle a day. you and ac could set up your own taxi company, nitwit cabs might be a good name for it. or vatcabs or idiot cabs. anyway between the pair of ya im sure it would be a great success. i wish u all the luck in the world. Hope you pass your psv test. 81% fail the first time. but id say a man with your knowledge of the taxi industry would pass no bother.if you dont pass just cry racism because the only fools that are going into the taxi industry now are non irish. anyway let us all know how you get on. cant wait to see you on the road. and im sure ben would be delighted to help you pass you psv test. just wear your concrete shoes when you meet up with him.

  206. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 5:12 pm

i like people in concrete shoes,i call them bubbles

  207. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 6:04 pm

pratt man needs to meet frank the physopath for to give him a few ideas about the taxi game

  208. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 6:06 pm

where is rot lately , he hasnt been on defending that other gimp ac ?

  209. geron 14 Jan 2013 at 6:09 pm

Ben. google “nigerians on welfare in ireland” it will cheer you up no end. it would even make ac blush.

  210. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 6:52 pm

Ah thanks Ger for the support I would say I would pass the knowledge test no bother. The extra few bob on top of my pension will come in handy & it will get me out of the house with something to do. Wish me luck lads

  211. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 6:59 pm

    this should be gud

  212. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 7:00 pm

u and another few thousand vat man

  213. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 7:29 pm

I’m studying hard for my knowledge test and I’m pretty confident i will pass. That will give me a chance to rent out my holiday home for most of the year

  214. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 7:55 pm

are you super-greedy or just trying to wind us up

  215. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 8:48 pm

Ger my blood is boiling, total nation of scammers. let ac defend them now. or maybe he is just as bad.

  216. African Cabbieon 14 Jan 2013 at 9:08 pm

Its strange that someone (an irish man!) simply says he is planning to drive Taxi part-time and you all start raining abuses on him?

Is it the Taxi job that turned you lot into such angry and bitter morons or is it just that the job attracts the lowest of the lowest in the society? I have never seen a concentration of such imbecilic idiots as l have seen here!

You take joy in giving everyone a name, Roy is Rat, A.C is clown, Vat man is Pratt, e.t.c!

So, now you agree that the knowledge test is difficult, right? (lol). That is what all foreigners have to go through to drive a Taxi though all of you lobbied to be exempt from doing the Test.

..and thats why you can never measure up!

I carry an Irish passport. Am an Irish citizen even though l am of African origin (winks). If the Taxi work dries up, l have other “skills” in high demand and l bet by now you’ll probably have guessed that if you are half as foolish as l think.

I dont live on welfare (have in the past when l just came here and yet to settle down) and would never need it anymore. I work, my wife works and between us, we have more than enough.
Like l said, no one can drive me out ….no matter how much you whine and moan, l am here to stay!

    Am loving it. (lol)

  217. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 9:40 pm

Thanks for your support AC. And no Ben I am
not greedy or trying to wind you up. Ben as I will be working for someone the taxi is already in service. Sure the part time work i am thinking of taking up will not take to much out of your pockets I know many people who have taken early retirement and have a good pension and they are driving taxis full time. Surely you would not begrudge me making a few extra bob. I think Ben if you and a few others had there way you would have all foreign taxis drivers, part timers , ect PSV licences revoked. I’m sorry lads as I have commented before this is unlikely to ever happen and no matter how many times you moan & groan it’s not going to change anything. The good Minister makes the decisions not so called taxis drivers & the taxi unions are in agreement with him

  218. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 9:50 pm

so ac has lots of skills such as master welfare scammer. and yes taxi work will dry up for you and your brothers. it seems to have attracted the lowest of the low from nigeria.

  219. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:07 pm

Ben that’s an awful comment to make against African Cabbie. Ben you or any other taxi driver have no evidence that he is a Master Welfare Scammer you may be surprised to learn who are the real Master welfare Scammers in the taxi industry if you contacted the DSP. In my opinion AC seems like a highly educated gentleman and a great benefit to the taxi industry. Stick at it AC the majority of Irish Citizens are on your side

  220. Benon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:30 pm

vat man you are african for sure and in denial like the rest of them. theres no such thing as an african gentleman.

  221. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:33 pm

the majority refuse to travel with africians for fear of been taken the scenic route . you will discover this yourself if you really do have the balls to come into this industry . you will get a pain in your well paid civil service hole with punters telling you they wont get in with them . long may it continue starve the bastards into submission , and send them back to the jungle

  222. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:45 pm

I’m 100% Irish & white and the majority of Irish refuse to travel with foreign taxi drivers i would doubt that very much the foreign born nationals seem to have the best of cars & please don’t tell me the Irish state paid for them I don’t accept that I have heard that waffle numerous times honeys

  223. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:52 pm

no your right pratt man the state did not pay for the cars .YOU DID through your taxes , prsi, usc , soon to be introduced property tax, water charges, etc etc on behalf of ac, and his colleagues from deepest, darkest, africa may i thank you very much

  224. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:57 pm

    Many would disagree with you

  225. bohemian boyon 14 Jan 2013 at 10:59 pm

    not TO many me thinks

  226. Vat manon 14 Jan 2013 at 11:31 pm

Backlash coming I don’t think so. And I think you guys are intelligent enough to know its not going to happen.we treat all our citizens equally. Remember our foreign born national now Irish citizens are contributing to the Revenue like the rest of you

  227. sclasson 15 Jan 2013 at 12:23 am

So you think African cabbie is African ya right my parrot is from the north pole.
So when did we start treating all our citizens equally. Some more equally than others. great little country.

  228. Vat manon 15 Jan 2013 at 1:09 am

I’m going to finish off this bottle of wine I can’t sleep

  229. Benon 15 Jan 2013 at 8:50 am

ac will come over and read u a bed time storey

  230. geron 15 Jan 2013 at 12:08 pm

Fat man must have overdosed on the wine. not a word from him today. or his lapdog ac. me thinks they are havin a love-in..or else he changed his name to TIM.

  231. Vat manon 21 Jan 2013 at 1:22 am

    Merlot & me hahaha

  232. Lizaon 18 Feb 2013 at 3:20 am

  234. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 9:53 am

Friday night was the worst friday i have ever done. a total waste of time. i would have made more money delivering pizzas. a fooking joke. dublin was one big taxi rank. and no punters out. how can a taxi driver who plays by the rules survive in this industry much longer?????.

  235. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:19 am

ger i said exactly the same thing yesterday.i never seen it as bad. there seems to be more taxis now, then ever before.did you also notice there seem to be more nitelinks on duty over the two nights[friday and saturday] then usual ? i was hoping this nightlink service was going to wind up because dublin bus are in trouble, but that doesnt seem to be the case.i would not have thought their nitelink service would have been profitable

  236. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:21 am

meant to say in last post would NOT have been profitable

  237. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:28 am

unless things change very soon, only ones that will survive are the part-timers, and the illegal towrags

  238. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 10:31 am

The taxpayer is funding the nite link. shag all people on them anyway. should be scrapped asap.

  239. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:53 am

Taxis to expensive lads you need to lower your prices

  240. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 11:00 am

Anybody seen ac? He is gone missing now a month. must be gone on a long holiday. i do hope he is ok. sure the reason we got 100,000nigerians is because the were been tortured and murdered in their own country or so the story went. funny then how a lot of them go back on holidays, to a place thats so dangerous. funny also how they overflew 15 other countries to get here. why was that? It must be the rain. or the free house, medical and welfare payments maybe.

  241. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 11:07 am

As Mr AC said I’m not claiming for anything that I am not entitled to. If Mr AC is not entitled to any I’m sure he would have been informed of that, and for all we know he could be paying a mortage

  242. C5on 18 Feb 2013 at 11:12 am

Will you be still saying that vat man, after the person your renting from ends up getting more money than you.your going to get such a shock when you come to taxi land.

  243. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 11:23 am

He wont last a wet weekend. he will be eaten alive, savages out there vatman. just waiting for a little ol codger like you to come along. Lamb to the slaughter. they will sense your fear and pounce.

  244. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 11:40 am

pratt man you say taxis are to expensive ? you, like the rest of the public need to be put straight on a few things. firstly two years ago when an increase in taxi fares was first proposed, joe duffy in his daytime radio show, discussed the matter,in great detail. the outcome of that was, that he held a poll on the day, for taxi drivers alone to ring in and vote as to whether they wanted an increase,or not. guess what ? 87% of drivers vote against any increase as they felt it would be bad for business. inspite of this, and other evidence , the then commision for taxi regulation [ctr] forced an increase upon the drivers.the reason they did this was, they were in line to receive nearly 100 euro for every meter that had to be resealed.a similar proposal for a fare increase was recently rejected by the industry reps [rightly so in my opinion] for the same reason,it would be bad for business.now this, coupled with the fact that every other mode of transport has been granted an increase recently, leaves me to think your assertion that taxis are to expensive are completely unfounded, and this is something you would be better reserching, then the rubbish you usually come out with.btw i had the new 5 year programme put into my hale meter on friday, 50 euro, and am now booked in for a reseal on wednesday, another 92 euro.

  245. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 11:51 am

Bboy. i have a hale. where did you get that done? And when does it have to be done by?

  246. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 12:51 pm

ger i posted a reply to you [twice] but for some reason it did not print . anyway you need to get it done before 17th march as you will not get the appropriate rate for patricks day if you dont. afaik south dublin autos are the sole agents for the reprogramming of hale meters.the process takes about 10 to 15 mins.you can just arrive and they will do it there and then. it cost 50 euros, but if you had,or are going to have your decals done by them, they will not charge for the programme.

  247. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 1:19 pm

Well in my opinion minimum fares €3.20 by day & €3.50
By night and extra passengers brought down to 50 cents

  248. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 1:27 pm

bat man talking shit again, do you know the cost of fuel, or the price of tyres

  249. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 1:39 pm

pratt man i have already explained to you.the fare structure settings has nothing to do with the drivers. the nta set the fares.in fact as i pointed out to you in an earlier post, we actually opposed thei increase 2 years ago but as usual the views of the drivers were not considered.so when you,and the other punters feel like having a go at the drivers in future, i would suggest you vent your anger at the nta, and not at us

  250. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 1:39 pm

Thanks bboy. vat man , if and when you get on the road, you can discount your fares as much as you like. nothing stopping you doing that. i dont do discounts. try going into topaz and getting 40euro of diesel for 30euro. or try getting your nct done for 20 euro instead of 55. we dont get discount, so why should we give them? You have a lot to learn my dear boy.

  251. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 1:46 pm

easy to pick out the cut price fools, their cars are total wrecks, they cannot maintain them

  252. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 1:46 pm

ger i dont do discounts ether, but its bloody anoying when you are sitting on a rank, and you refuse , and the asshole behind you takes the fare.when im asked for a discount i always ask the punter did they ask the publican for a discount in the pub they just came out of ? you can blame ebbs, kelly, kearns etc, etc,for all this , they set the trend.

  253. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 1:51 pm

    Agree bboy 100%

  254. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 2:03 pm

over on the forum john m talks of a 56 hour week max. this includes the 40 hours a double jobber would have under his belt already, leaving him 16 hours potentially to steal our livlihoods from us.what im trying to find out is [and maybe john could enlighten me] is this an actual proposal,or is it just something john feels could happen sometime in the future ?

  255. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 3:50 pm

    that would be good news

  256. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 4:28 pm

Ah well the radio companies are doing good discount fares

  257. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 4:30 pm

I agree taxi drivers should not be allowed drive more than 56 hours per week it’s to dangerous

  258. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 4:37 pm

tell that to the part time SCABS who do 56 hours in a taxi and 40 hours in the day job

  259. geron 18 Feb 2013 at 4:56 pm

Vat boy. no radio gangsters are doing discounts. the idiot drivers who pay hard earned money to these mobsters are doing the discounts. the driver takes the hit you will learn that if you get a radio.. you might want to get your facts right before you start mouthing off. like i said before you have a lot to learn. go study my friend.

  260. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 5:09 pm

go back to the civil service, you will never make a cabbie

  261. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 5:11 pm

ger is totally right in what he says about these gangsters.the punters think to themselves oh, how nice of mr ebbs to give me 20% off the fare, what they dont realize its not ebbs giving it, its the poor gobshite behind the wheel giving it.the same idiots who dont have the balls to ask him why he doesnt give them 20% off their base fees.the quicker this hailo crowd destroy them all the better

  262. bohemian boyon 18 Feb 2013 at 5:18 pm

if the day ever comes when ttnh ,nita,or ANY rep body represents ONLY independents,i will be first in the que to join them. its painfully obvious that there are plans afoot to force ALL drivers to join the ranks of the sc,mbag radio companies, and unfortinitely independents ether cannot see it,or just dont give a boll.x they will when its to late though

  263. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 8:25 pm

I’m really looking forward to picking up my first taxi fare

  264. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 9:00 pm

they are not all nice to carry, be warned

  265. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 9:43 pm

I’m a understanding & kind person I’m sure they will see that

  266. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:04 pm

most will be ok, but it only takes one nasty muppet to spoil your day

  267. Vat manon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:39 pm

The best way to deal with naughty people is tell them
To calm down & behave themselves

  268. Benon 18 Feb 2013 at 10:47 pm

some people off their heads from drink or drugs, or both, wont listen.

  269. C5on 18 Feb 2013 at 11:59 pm

A bit of advice vat man,i have been dealing with all sorts for nearly 20 years, never tell somebody to calm down and behave themselves in a confined space like a taxi,if things start getting sour just agree with them, keep them happy just to get your fare and get them out of the cab,or else you will be on the six o clock news, and not good news on your part.

  270. bohemian boyon 19 Feb 2013 at 12:06 am

absolutely shit out there. went out 9 -45 pm, home 11 -45 without so much as a 5 cent peice. also worst weekend for a long time . i dont give a fukk what anyone says there is as many taxis now, as there ever was.i know its early days, but its hard to be optimistic about the new rules.that fukker mick flynn who owns matress mick, beds plus, 36 taxis, extensive property portfolio and drives a taxi himself, was not put off by the decals, he was one of the first to get them on infact

  271. geron 19 Feb 2013 at 12:37 pm

Agree bboy. more taxis than ever. nobody making anything during the week. thats why the weekend nights are swamped with taxis. and another one on the way. MR VAT MAN. lord save us.

  272. Benon 19 Feb 2013 at 6:32 pm

too many people like bat man out driving taxis and drawing big state pensions. people like him should not be allowed to have a psv licence.

  273. bohemian boyon 19 Feb 2013 at 7:10 pm

had an indian bloke in the car today. he told me he used to run blackrock cabs. a BIG MISTAKE. said he was brought in by breffnie o brien at the time to run it. i think by the time our journey he was wishing he had taken the ac lookalike taxi behind me. ah but there ya go,another satisfied customer.

  274. geron 20 Feb 2013 at 9:05 am

A lot of people made big money out of this national disgrace. scratch under the surface and you will find that the cute hoors that were ff had their dirty little fingers in the pie. or contracts were awarded for kickbacks. This country is corrupt to the core. and the biggest gangsters are/were in leinster house. they changed the social fabric of this country for ever. its not ireland anymore. its a stinking cesspit. ruined beyond repair.

  275. bohemian boyon 20 Feb 2013 at 1:25 pm

i never knew the rsa write to you to advise you of the REMOVAL of penalty points when your 3 years is up.the wrote to me this morning saying 2 of my points are gone, leaving me with 2

  276. Benon 20 Feb 2013 at 4:36 pm

boh you must be friendly with your local td !!

  277. Vat manon 20 Feb 2013 at 6:12 pm

I hear the NTA are out checking to see if drivers are working even though they know some taxi drivers have not registered. Drivers that rent a taxi is obliged to registered himself to the taxi & the rental operator is obliged to register the lease non compliance fine & penalty points. No excuse I did not understand or I can’t read

  278. bohemian boyon 20 Feb 2013 at 6:17 pm

i think thats fantastic,if its true.anything that helps to take dodgy taxis off the road is to be welcomed

  279. Benon 20 Feb 2013 at 7:21 pm

only problem is that those nta guys are muppets, they never seem to catch the illegal tow rags

  280. Benon 20 Feb 2013 at 7:23 pm

    Stacy did you try http://www.kathleendoylemuppet.org

  281. C5on 20 Feb 2013 at 8:35 pm

I checked out that web site, its blank like KDs brain.

  282. Benon 20 Feb 2013 at 8:50 pm

exactly C5, it was meant as a swipe at her

  283. African Cabbieon 27 Feb 2013 at 1:43 am

In the most cases, people will treat you the same way you treat others.
Its called “personality” and if you have a sour and denigrating personality like some over here, you would mostly get the raw side of others.

Be nice to your customers …and in most cases, they would be nice to you.
Even though l am ‘dark colored’, it still works for me.

  284. Benon 27 Feb 2013 at 5:14 pm

how is the credit card scamming business, you must be flat out lately.

  285. African Cabbieon 01 Mar 2013 at 2:03 am

if you have knowledge of anyone doing such illegal business, its your duty to inform the Gardai with “evidence” otherwise, you are either an accessory to crime or a malicious rabble-rouser, in which case, l would suggest you look up in the meaning of “defamation”, in a dictionary!

  286. bohemian boyon 01 Mar 2013 at 1:07 pm

    afternoon girls

  287. bohemian boyon 01 Mar 2013 at 1:14 pm

i promised myself when i got up this morning i would try very hard not to slag the pratt, ac, sopiha, even roy .but fukkit its just to hard not to.pratt was in the george last nite, ac was scamming cash machines sopiha was … well id rather not say, and good ole roy was monitoring my posts to see if i used the dreaded word sc.mbag.ah well

  288. sophiaon 01 Mar 2013 at 3:01 pm

well sophia was doing an honest hard days work that is all BB. you should try it some time you and your other buddies on here. lol……….
