Taxi Industry Portal
Roy January 15th, 2013
I got my letter today telling me I must register with the newTaxi industry portal within 16 days or face a fine.
So I duly obliged and entered the details they sent me, I received my confirmation email and proceeded to enter my desired password ….. dead end!
It seems nobody has been able to get past this step in the process … all very amateurish.

Another almighty cock up and waste of drivers time and money
It gets better, hit same problem and tried to ring the phone numbers supplied ,automated machine “all our operators are busy” but told call charges may vary. Are these premier rate no.? . If they are i just give up let them fine me what they want” QUANGO MANIA” has arrived .
It’s expensive if you ring those 1890 etc numbers from a mobile always use a landline
vatman sounds very like ac, just missing the lol crap
That’s right I phoned a 1890 number and it was over €2 for a call made for just 3 min. ridiculous
well i got my letter yesterday and didnt bother using any of the suggested ways to register , i just rang the main taxi regulator number[6593800] girl put me through to section who deals with it, and a very nice american lady regristered my details there, and then
A lot of c. r. a. p. They should have everything on file a long time ago. They have our tax clearance cert, details of our car. What other profession is required to provide so many details to so many bureaucrats. Just to keep them busy? What else do they want to know? Make sure you can tell them what your granny had for breakfast two years ago.
What they seem not to be too concerned about is: a criminal record !
What is Quango Mania, John ? You make it sound like some exotic drink.
(Feck, arse)
fly i agree with you on most things, however i think anything that can keep a tighter control on who is driving what is to be welcomed .as regard the criminal record,it is my understanding that anyone with a serious criminal record is to have their licences revoked, and be removed from the industry
there has been a lack of cotrol for a few years in the rental market, thats why so many foreign scumbags have got in.
Well I told you a few weeks ago all these rules were coming in. And the reply was its not signed into law, in fact most of the rules are in now
pratt man we dont need you to tell us what is happening in the industry,we are well aware of whats going on . i actually welcome tighter controls, the problem ,as ben always says ,is the lack of enforcement . it would be nice to think that there is going to be a purpose of the registration ledger,we shall wait and see
Well i tol you blah blah blah blah. Go crack open a bottle of wine. are you in mensa?.
vat man sounds like alan kellys personal secretary
Hahahahahahahahahaha I prefer much tighter controls myself. I’m sure the taxi industry will improve greatly as a result of the Taxi Regulation Bill 2012 and must be welcomed by all
ben the problem is simple .foreign nationals are NOT subject to the same vetting procedures as irish drivers ,and thats a fact .irish applicants who apply for a taxi licence must provide documentary evidence of their character right back to birth, however foreign nationals are only vetted from the date of their arrival in this country . so in effect they could have committed very serious crimes in their country of origen ,but there is no record of it . the gardai use a system called pulse which has limited capeabillities. when it was put to the former minister mr dempesy to dispense with this system in favour ofthe psa [private security authority] he point blank refused without explanation .this proposal was put to the minister by a shinn fein deputy, on behalf of capitol taxi assocation . so therein lies the problem as far as foreigners are concerned
thats correct Boh, and thats why we have so many foreign criminals in Ireland, enjoying a nice lifestyle milking the welfare, and driving taxis illegally. dempsey is a total tosser.
not much defence a c can put up against that ben the facts speak for themselves
ben this is ALSO unfair compettion we are being asked to compete with people who are potential criminals ,and we have no way to confirm it one way or the other.i had already informed the competition authority some time ago about this, and they were as unhelpful as ever advising me that it was a police matter .what else would they say , sure dont two c a employees sit on the taxi advisory council
Boh a lot of them are showing their true colours already. just look at the number of them in court.
Hi all,
Received letter can anyone give some clarification on this letter does it mean every Taxi driver has to phone in with details at start of each & every shift or just those renting seems a bit outlandish
assumpta my understanding of it is, every spo [single plate owner] who drives his own taxi must regrister their details with the nta by the methoods described in the letter you will have received , and by the date that is stated on the letter on a once off basis. in the case of mpos [multi plate owners] who rent out their plates, they must also own,and have insurence in respect of each car they rent out, and they must own the plate. it is also the case that they MUST record the details of each rental transaction, and forward those details to the nta on a monthly basis
Wont be too long before the industry standard smart meter that will settle the war on the tax compliance front! I just wonder how long?!
Hi david, your comment is really funny, how will the “smart meter” help the 13,100 licence holders who legitimately claim and depend on welfare payments bring their income up to basic levels to earn enough to pay tax
Rental Operators only register there driver details & insurance policy details car reg plate no ect one time on each vehicle. The rental operator only has to reregester there drivers details if the driver changes vehicle even on a tempory basis. Independent owners same rules apply. No clocking in on a daily basis. New plan proposed on annual returns info out soon
Mr VAT man how many drivers can be registered to one vehicle? 1,2,3,4,5 or more
When the driver changes the vehicle it’s obvious he would have to be de registered from the previous vehicle and so on
So i rent my vehicle at the moment to 4 different drivers who each operate the vehicle for 6 hrs per shift per day, when the potential passenger scans the QR code does the information on the 4 different drivers appear on the passengers smart phone
I’m aware that rental operators change there drivers quite frequently over the year. So there is no specific numbers as far as I’m aware who can be reregestered. Rentals operators are to ensure the data base in updated regularly with reference to there vehicle. Independent owners same rules apply.
Tru dub that’s a bit silly now 4 drivers only 1 on a lease
Taxi employers will be subject to same rules as every other employer to ensure his staff is registered with revenue and minimum salary applies
VAT man now you are being silly, there are plenty of vehicles that are shared by different drivers, there are quite a few married couples/significant others who work the same vehicles on a shift basis, the question remains how many drivers can i register to the one vehicle, and by the way where does it say that i cannot lease/rent my taxi to as many drivers as i like.
VAT man now you are getting hilarious, why dont you go back to being silly
“Taxi employers” mmmmm, the vast majority of taxi drivers are self employed, very few are in “paye employment”
Multiple drivers may be considered employee’s
There is quite a number in taxi bases on the PAYE system
Thats a great word “may” why didnt you use the word “will” the word will is much more definitive.
Tru Dub what you can do is try and register a few drivers on one vehicle on the NTA’s data portal and see how you get on I would think the NTA might look for further details
To register as a company and employ people you have to register for PAYE, and staff employed in the taxi base for the most part are part of the PAYE system, taxi drivers on the other hand however they are aligned with taxi bases be it the rent the vehicle or lease the vehicle or simply rent the radio, for the most part are self employed, and most of the taxi bases have clarified their situation in relation to the issue of VAT, and their charges have been found to be exempt from VAT.
So married couples who have to share and operate their taxi on a shift basis to make ends meet could be in serious financial trouble if only one driver can be officially registered to the vehicle.
In the case of a married couple or partners of independent owner drivers letters from NTA have been sent out to each individual PSV holder to be filled in
Your best bet is to telephone the NTA & they will kindly send you out the information you require
The letter that i received from the NTA states quite clearly that “operators renting or leasing their vehicle to another person (singular) are responsible for making rental notifications.
The letter also states quite clearly as an owner driver only one notification is required until i change my vehicle or allow my vehicle to be used by another SPSV driver (singular)
This would clearly indicate that only one person is allowed to operate one vehicle.
In respect of a lease yes 1 person
A married couple who both hold a PSV licence & own 1 taxi will both fill in there details on the portal data base in reference to there taxi
True Dub – nothing funny about it at all. Anybody that believes the day is not coming where they know when and where you switched on a meter and how much the fair was is needing a wake up call. I believe or suspect might be a better phrase, that the national fare review did not yield either way because there is something else in the tube or- work in progress- but i will be very surprised if nothing happens by the end of the next review, where we will be in a hailo type situation with a meter. Not that im complaining either, just observing in a forward manner.
in coclusion taxi driving is alwaye being drama,im 20 yrs in and behind on mortage ,1question why am i so sad?but i observe laughter with people who drive rentals, im 20 yrs in snd if new leg is appraite as an ambassoder of buisness i vud be gone,i dont understand why people who invest make more of a living than us gud guys who drive
Vat man go to bed. the wine is making u type rubbish.
who is this vat man, and how does he know so much about new taxi legislation
true dub he must be talking about all the drivers aligned to the radio companies who think they ARE employees of ebbs, kelly, kearns, etc etc more importantly the afore mentioned trio ALSO believe these drivers are their employees, sure dont they treat them as such, by telling them what to wear, how much to charge, disiplining them for not giving taking certain jobs, turning a blind eye to scumbag base staff looking after their cronies out the back door etc etc
@bo boy how do we get the phone number.
Afternoon lads
Whatever.
vat man did you get a carry out
Hi David Wyer, yeah great news about the meter and all that, personally speaking i never turn it on unless there is a passenger in my taxi, so unless i get more passengers then whatever those in charge have in mind is irrelevant, it may well help even more than the current over 13,100 licence holders qualify for welfare payments, be careful what you wish for and all that.
VAT man thanks very much for making that phone call to clarify that issue, and so late at night as well, hope the recipient wasnt too put out.
Before I go out again after my break to see if there are people leaving the clubs:
I should be all for it, anything that can stop the illegals, right ? So why am I sceptical about this registering? Simply because all our data should already be available and accessible to the relevant authorities. And those who should be asked are unlikely to be on the list of people who received this letter (yes, I will register, probably Monday). The illegal taxi drivers are the very ones who should be caught in the net and be weeded out. This is not going to have any effect on them because they stay under the radar. The only solution is very frequent spot checks but with less and less Gardai and only a handful of inspectors the problem is not likely to be addressed. So this whole exercise is nothing but another waste of time and money. We ARE already registered. With our tax and other data, it is all on file. Or should be. So this is just another useless quango, nothing more.
Oh and about sharing a vehicle it is not unknown for illegal drivers to use a vehicle that is rented to one legal driver, usually from the same country. They will always be waved through at a routine road check and even if the licence is given a quick glance, how many LEGAL drivers look different on the photo? There is simply not enough time and staff to do a thorough check. As long as the vehicle is (or appears to be) legal and there is a driver’s ID with the proper area and validity on display it is likely that the cab will be allowed to continue. So all this registering BS is not going to solve anything. If you don’t even know who the person is you are looking for (e.g. Vlad Illegalsky) you are unlikely to find him !
@ True Dub.
My point, non condescending: Applying smart technology to a meter (they have touched on this already in a newsletter) their wish list not mine, will certainly not be for the benefit of anybody operating one, even though in some cases tracking ‘actual’ earnings would be apt. But, more likely those legitimately seeking social welfare, especially with the ruthlessness involved in grabbing your money these days, would absolutely not benefit
Dear Taxi Driver
Our records show that you worked a total 6 days last week in which you earned a total of €420.00 (or whatever figure you like, im keeping it at the lower end)
Unfortunately ……. Blahdy blah.
Optimism, bottom of the bottle.
Best D.
Does the taxi regulator not have all these details we are required to give already? I urge people not to respond to this rubbish and these people will have to find some other way to justify their civil servant salaries, good god if one of them drove a taxi for a couple of months they might understand the hardship we are constantly going through
i dont intend to respond to it, just more bullshit. they should focus on getting all the illegal scum off the road.
The regulator does have all your details, what they are attempting to do is to connect the drivers details with the appropriate vehicle, or to put it another way they are trying to put 2 and 2 together, lets hope they get 4 as the answer and not 22
gentlemen i can only conclude that [based on my appeal to independents to get together] and the apperent lack of response , that none of you are interested in continuing to self determine your future. as sure as the sun is in the sky, you will all be forced to join scumbag radio companies, or get out of the industry in the event of time .the writing is on the wall, yet you are all prepared to sit back and wait for it to happen
kearns, ebbs, kelly, etc etc are no better then the pimps that use, and abuse the people who work for them. only difference is drivers DO NOT work for these towrags, but they still allow themselves to be rode by them
Hi david wyer,
smart technology in taxi meters sounds fantastic when being discussed in committee meetings, but in reality all it will achieve will be another string to the bow of the cottage industry that exists to tamper with meters.
As you state in your comment,
you worked 6 days last week and your meter has recorded takings of 420
thats one side of the balance sheet, what the meter records as takings does not equate to driver earnings.
Well i told you lads big changes were on the way and a few more changes on the way. You are correct in your comment what ever your meter records is not your proper earnings but when you get fuel you have printed receipt all expenses will be taken into account
So big changes on the way
So come on VAT man, have you read the proposed taxi regulation act, and your opinion of same ?, or do you depend on your contacts opinion.
bit early for vatman to be awake, he seems to be a nightowl
I had a quick look over the Taxi Regulation Bill 2012 and as a result I can see a reasonable number of taxi drivers leaving the industry in 2013. The penalty points fixed fines & registration of drivers by the 31st ect. In my opinion the the bill seems reasonable
true dub i must say to you that i am surprised that you would rather engage with that clown vat man in his crazy daily comments ,then express your opinion on what you think the future for independent taxi drivers is. do you agree we need to get together to fight the threat from radio coumpanies ? do you disagree ? surely you see this as a serious issue, and one that must be addressed before its to late.i dont know if your an independent, or not, but you must have a view just the same
In my opinion taxi radio companies and taxi apps are the future of the industry. They seem to be offering fixed rates fares and no call out charges. And I feel anything that helps the consumers during these times were living in has to be a good thing. I think it’s better joining a base or signing up to a taxi app than sitting on a rank scratching your bottom for hours waiting taxi fare. This would also help the taxi rank situation
Vat man, you say you can see a “reasonable” number of drivers leaving the industry, why would drivers leave the industry ?
In your opinion the bill seems reasonable, maybe you should read it in a bit more detail
BB the future for the independent taxi driver ? even more of the same pain inflicted by those in authority, with more anaesthetic administered by the dept of social destruction
Social Welfare benefits for self employed taxi drivers will be reviewed in the coming months. In my opinion it is of no benefit to the state for a citizen to hold a PSV licence and also to be receiving social welfare assistance. Taxi drivers may have to decide to they wish to hold there on to there PSV licence or claim social welfare however it can’t be both. And those taxi drivers on disability allowance should be registered as PAYE employee’s of the companies they are working for.
Who is the moderator of this website?
vatman we are taxis, the meter decides the fare. hackneys work off set fares. and we are entitled to our call out fee.
Social welfare benefit will be review in the coming months for self employed taxi drivers PSV or benefits your choice but you can’t have your cake & eat it
VAT man your comment in relation to dispatch companies and apps being the future of the industry is a perfectly logical view from someone on the outside looking at the taxi industry, but we live in an “alice in wonderland” country where we are through the looking glass and everything is arse about face, and our industry is a particularly good example of this phenomenon. Companies with the biggest taxi spend are the ones who have the poorest level of service from taxi dispatch companies, go figure, the dept of social distruction have “invested” a conservative figure of about 1,000,000,000 in the taxi industry over the past 10 years or so. When they began their investment there were only a few drivers dependant on welfare, now there are over 13,000 drivers dependant on welfare, that number is continuing to increase, go figure.
Rental operators & dispatch companies have a lot of changes to do aswell like how they employ there drivers who are on disability benefit
The industry is not as bad as you make it out to be. Moaning & Groaning all the time
VAT man i presume that comment is directed at myself, can you point out where i have “moaned and groaned”
What a muppet that vat man is, he shouldn’t really be commenting if he is not in the ” industry” , ( I hate that word, it assumes we have a viable business) the facts are , that there are just too many licences out there and unless the regulator takes some back off the streets the problems will persist, ugly green sticker or not , I was speaking to a solicitor at the weekend and he was saying if it’s a requirement to have these stickers defacing our cars then we would be legally entitled to VRT refunds on any new purchase of cars
it always makes laugh when i read comments like the one above from vat man.the same with the punters who constantly give out about what they believe are moaning taxi drivers. THESE KNUUTS DONT HAVE TO WORK IN IT . these fukkers are going home on a thursday, or friday night, safe in the knowledge that they have a gaurenteed weeks wages in their arse pockets, then they have the cheek to pass judgement on men,and women who must go out and listen to the shite that comes out of their mouths as they fall out the public house door and into your taxi, and start going on about discounts.i usually shut them up very quickly by asking them did they ask the publican for 20% off the price of their pint? this discounting [THAT EBBS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR] has got to stop. its up to the drivers who are there to stop it,but unfortunenly dont seem to have the balls no more then they have the balls to challenge any other ruling laid down by their lord and master. i would any one of these knutts kelly, ebbs, kearns etc,etc to come on and try and justify how they can treat these drivers in the way they do.they honestly believe these drivers are their EMPLOYEES, and i suppose sadly so do the drivers.for myself i can honestly say hell would freeze over before i would have anything to do with these towrags, who the nta continue to rule in favour of
I would take the opposite view in relation to VAT man than some of the comments made about him, taxi drivers do need the opinions of those outside the industry, VAT man does seem to have an interest and a little knowledge of the proposed new taxi regulation act, he does like to wind some of you up and you keep jumping into the trap. The facts about the industry are there for anyone to look for and find, and if VAT man keeps looking for information and he is given the facts then he can be better informed
true dub i always have great respect for your opinion on most things to do with the industry, however i cant help noticing a great reluctance by you,and by everyone to voice your opinion on what you REALLY think about the towrags that run our industry ie the scumbag radio companies .apart from yourself do you think reluctance is born out of fear by the others ?
@ True Dub
Not to be misleading – the 6 days €420 take was a ‘fictional record’ on my ‘metaphorical smart Meter’. Of course there are opposite sides to the balance sheet and meter records do not equate to earnings but; my point from the beginning – Smart Technology in the hands of agents of the State + the repressive nature of the way things are heading generally – and more so regarding Social protection, the equilibrium of balance sheets will fall out perfectly to the State.
We ‘CAN SEE’ ? you made €420. After making all relevant deductions, taking into account everything that we say goes (on our super smart technology system) it is the decision of this department is that your earnings were sufficient — blady blah …
Discussions at committee meetings are realization enough that this is the way monitoring earnings is going forward. I think hacking would be the new tampering but they’ll have that covered with algorithms and passwords and top secret stuff – just like banking on your phone eh.
Best D
is this the same david wyer from the we the people group ?
Hi david
yeah, no misunderstanding on my part of what you are saying in relation to “smart meters”, and discussions at committee meetings are great and all that, and I am sure that those who are pushing the concept that “technology” will solve the problems are very good at convincing those around the table that they have the answers, but any “system” built by humans is always open to tampering, it will just add to the cottage industry that exists already. The record of those in charge of our industry in dealing with the existing “cottage industry” that enables meter tampering, doesnt inspire confidence.
i see we were the subject of discussion on joe duffy show again today anyone hear it?
HELLO HELLO HELLO CAN ANYONE HEAR ME OUT THERE ? this must be what it feels like when people are talking about you when you are in the room, i keep commenting on the scumbag radio companies, david, true dub,and god save us even vat man keep ignoring me .even frank the bleeding psycopath over on da forum gets more attention huh
My comments are not directed at anyone Tru Dub i just commenting after reading number of comments
christ almighty even when pratt man does reply he gets it wrong. IT WAS ME THAT SENT YA THE LAST COMMENT .i can only conclude that david, pratt man,and true dub, are REALLY kelly, kearns, and ebbs and yis are afraid to engage with me
Competition is good for any industry and if you were not a taxi driver and you were offered a less expensive taxi home and it would come to pick you up you would take it to. I do agree some of the drivers should be classed as employee as I believe taxi drivers on disability can not be self employed
I also believe welfare assistance should be cut for taxi drivers
pratt man you have replied to one of my post im shocked , but i STILL have a feeling you would be better suited hanging around the george. anyway enough of that .competition is NOT good for this,or any other industry. reason ? because it cost jobs . board gais shuold stick to the supply of gas, esb should stick to the supply of electricty, etc etc thousands of jobs have been lost in these, and other sectors through competition, not to mention the hatred which has ensued as a direct result of it . nine trucks were burned out belonging to a certain rubbish collection fairly recently, and its widely believed this happened because another company didnt want the competition.this is just ONE example
they can cut mine all they like, i didnt even know i was entitled to it
All self employed taxi drivers are entitled to welfare assistance it is means tested. However it’s been reviewed in the coming months and cut altogether I believe
I believe that if taxi drivers require welfare they should surrender there PSV licences as they are no benefit to the state
@ bo @ True dub – What can I say that everyone doesn’t already know about the Taxi Industry being used as a template for what turned out to be the plans for the rest of the country. Nothing that is nobody inspires confidence, not even if you belong to a particular group like mine, the I OPINION GROUP.
Imagine a meter that could dis entitle you to benefits because you have sufficient earnings or are just a few euros over the miserable quota not to have qualified, and to the mark, record every cent declarable. Pin point you in a place at a time, Switch off when you have reached your quota of allowable hours or millage. Switch off when if a licence is due to expire and the activation process has not begun during the allotted time. Imagine a meter that could record conversations and video footage, oh the possibilities are endless.
Is this a little far fetched?
My opinion on illegals is that well they’re illegal and that’s for the cops to deal with.
My opinion on legitimate non-nationals is they are doing what they are doing legitimately under our law and doing nothing wrong.
Is it right that you could do taxi driver course 101 and be one in a few months, no, it’s not, and whose fault is that, hardly the Non-nationals?!
Is it right that Indigenous taxi drivers were not protected in their industry by perhaps the introduction of a ‘only naturalized individuals policy’ with the required amount of time spent in the country could apply for a stringent exam procedure. No Its not.
Is it right that databases exist in this country but don’t in others, no its not.
My groups office is full of sticky notes that contain even more rights and wrongs and I would be all day quoting them
Best D
I OPINON GROUP
The department of social destruction are well enmeshed in the taxi industry now, difficult for them to extract themselves from the toxic sewer that is the irish taxi industry.
thats news to me pratt man, although i wont say your wrong i just dont know
well if drivers are legally entitled to social welfere why are other drivers on here always giving out about it ? just asking like
i notice david did not answer the question if he is indeed david wyer of we the people fame
vatman talks about less expensive taxis, that means illegal scum. if you are happy to travel with them, shame on you. would laugh if you had an accident in one of their cars.
I think it’s the drivers leasing who are receiving welfare assistance
Taxi driver should not be entitled to any welfare asistance while holding a PSV licence but that’s just my opinion
do ya mean like the rent boys that ebbs controls for 350 euro a week ?
There a lot of taxi drivers leasing off rental operators and do receive welfare asistance and supplementary welfare payments to help with there mortage repayments. And I know that for a fact
To qualify for the asistance strict means tests are in place. But I believe there may be plans to cut this asistance for the self employed
so are you saying that ebbs is getting most of the social welfere cheques from his rent boys towards their costs ? i take it you are ALSO aware that the lucritive work is going out the back door to make sure the rent boys are happy, and able to meet their weekly 350 euro commitment to this pimp
can anyone advise me here. i have a hale meter which must be recalibrated in march.now my installer[s d a] tell me that they STILL have not received the new programme from the nta to allow them to do it.if this continues to be the case and they DONT get it in time, can i sue the nta for loss of earnings as i will miss out on paddys day ?
No the drivers renting the taxi get the welfare asistance not the owner of the taxi
It will be there on time & no you can not sue
VAT man the welfare cheque may well be made out in the drivers name but the money ends up in the licence holders pocket.
The welfare inspectors means test every taxi driver seeking welfare asistance the inspector take the €350 into account plus the cost of the fuel. In that case the taxi driver renting may be allowed to retain his full benefits
Well that may be the case as it is called asistance
yes but they have to give whatever they get plus some to make up the 350 aweek .i dont know how that bastard sleeps at night.also pratt man i am convinced you have MORE then a passing interest in our industry, you appear to have a good deal of knowledge about it,more then just a lay man anyway
i forgot to say tell uz 4 fuk zake
A taxi driver that is renting a taxi €350 pw plus fuel maybe allowed to keep all of his/hers benefits
Moderater does not want me to give to many details in my comments
Another €350 fuel cost maybe €150 per week that leave the driver with only €200
VAT man there are 13,100 VEHICLE licence holders out of a fleet of approx 18,800 who depend on welfare payments thats approx 70% of vehicle licence holders, (vehicle licence holders are not necessarily taxi drivers)
the dept of social destruction wont give figures for the number of the 34,678 licensed taxi drivers who depend on welfare payments, but if we use the same percentage of vehicle licence holders we can guess there are over 24,000 taxi drivers dependent on welfare cheques. Looks like the dept of social destruction wont be getting out of the taxi industry any time soon
In that case they may be allowed hold on to there full benefits
VAT man
“Moderater does not want me to give to many details in my comments”
sure you have given plenty already, i think you are a bit of a chameleon.
I hear there are plans to give the PSV holders a choice PSV or welfare but not both
I can’t stay on late tonight lads have a date
I hear there are plans to give the PSV holders a choice PSV or welfare but not both
Nope, the dept of social destruction will end up supporting even more taxi drivers
Is feider linn
Cutting the welfare asistance will cripple rental operators
VAT man an hour ago you said
No the drivers renting the taxi get the welfare asistance not the owner of the taxi
now its
Cutting the welfare asistance will cripple rental operators
which statement is correct
like i said you are a bit of a chameleon, why dont you give the rest of them a few more hints
If the drivers have there welfare cut altogher do you think they would rent a taxi. I think not
I’m a very distinguished looking gentle man alright
How many taxi drivers would you say are on disability benefit
Well even if the drivers didnt complain about their welfare being cut or eliminated then the renters certainly would, and they carry a fair bit of clout with those theoretically in charge of the industry, so no change there then.
You certainly are a distinguished looking gent alright, but you could do with loosing a few pounds, so how is the diet going since you started it.
No complaints from my lovers so far so I must be doing ok
they like a bit of padding ?
I wonder will taxi drivers who are on disability allowance will they register by the 31st of January
You must have had your hearing aid turned off at the time so.
Government want rental ops to start employing there drivers
Drivers that are entitled to welfare assistance are entitled to welfare assistance
Government want rental ops to start employing there drivers
The rental operators create self employment opportunities, its all about job creation.
Big changes to the asistance 2013 guaranteed
come prattman tell us who ya are for fuk sake ?
Who do you think I am that’s the ?
Ben that’s correct you are entitled to the call out charge but I believe most dispatch companies have waived the call out charge that’s a matter for yourself and the owner of the dispatch company if taxi in allined with a base.
Brian VRT refunds due to defacing new cars with door stickers i would not hold my breath if i were you waiting on the refund you may have to wait quite a long time
well the way you defend the scumbag radio companies, your probably kearns,or ebbs
Sorry no im not
well im not going to play guessing games with ya either tell us who you are,or fukk off
thought you had a date in the george tonight anyway ?
when a vat man sounds like a vat man, walks like a vat man (with bow legs)he most lickly a !!!!!!
No he cancelled he had the flu were leaving it off for another night
No I’m not telling who I am either
then in the imortal words of frank the psycopath,of forum fame, fukk off
where da fukk is ben, and ac lately have they both been banished from here by roy? come to think of it though, where the fukk is rot himself lately ?
BB its frank the sociopath.
he may be frank the sociopath to YOU true dub, but to me he will ALWAYS be frank the psycopath
Just to clarify, VAT man is not FDS, but FDS does not like people getting his name wrong.
Morning lads
Afternoon, VAT man
Watch out vat mans about. sorry to hear your date didnt happen. thats why the furry glove was invented. what wise words are you going to educate us with today mr vat man. or shall we address you as the special one?
one of yis is wrong. pratt man says only drivers leasing taxis are entitled to supplementary welfere, yet true dub says theres over 13k drivers on welfere,i dont believe there are 13k drivers leasing
anyone that is self employed is entitled to apply for welfare assistance. However it does not mean they will be successful in there application
I don’t get that what is the furry glove Ger
there are over 13,000 VEHICLE licence holders (18,800) dependent on welfare supplements,
welfare will not say how many SPSV driving licence holders (34,600 taxi drivers) are dependent on welfare,
Well they may not be dependent on welfare for much longer if they continue to work in the taxi industry. It’s called cut backs
Cut the 18,800 SPSV holders from receiving welfare asistance unless they surrender there licences over 50% would surrender there licences. outcome a lot less taxis drivers in the industry making it viable business to be in
this is all news to me about taxi drivers receiving benefits, i knew there were some, i thought maybe a couple of hundred at most, but 13k ?
During my daily enquiries I noticed on one website taxi plate for rent €200 per month must have a 9 year old car or under & one month free. Amazing as I thought plate only rental were banned. However would someone be so foolish to sign there 9 year old car over to complete strangers
Oh yes brian on the VRT refund I’m sure the solicitor that told you that was only pulling your leg
And Ben yes you are correct on the call out charge but I believe a lot of taxis bases and taxi app’s have waived that call out charge for there customers. That’s a matter you need to take up with the dispatch companies
Ben dispatch companies have waived the call out charges
My goodness you have all gone very quite all of a sudden
dont worry pratt man,im still here
where the fukk is ben and ac,in where the fukk is rot ?
I hear there was a load of taxi drivers in a social welfare office today looking for asistance

Did the penny drop on the furry glove vatman? If it didnt just ask ur local priest! They all have one.
Do they Ger I still don’t get it. What is the furry glove ?
good morning everyone, even prattman.isnt amazing how people go silent when you ask them to express their opinion on scumbag radio companies.fear lives on im afraid, drivers with no balls, and at the moment with no work, and STILL they are afraid to say what they REALLY think about their[EMPLOYERS] well thats how they see it anyway.they see themselves as paye employees, they allow themselves to be treated like shite not only by the owners of these companies, but also by ignorant bully boys who work in the base.the funny thing is,if the same conditions prevailed before you were taximen, and when you were in your 9 to 5 jobs, you would have been looking to take industrial action if you had to endure HALF the shite you take from your new handlers.yet here you are quite prepared to paye these leeches every week so that they can continue to treat you like shite.shame on all of you who have no balls.i asked one particular driver on this forum[at least twice] to express his true feelings about the towrags kelly ebbs, kearns, etc, etc and he did not reply.he went silent like the rest of you . question WHAT THE FUKK ARE YOU ALL AFRAID OF ?
did you all hear the news ? page 109 rte artel . up to 6000 taxi drivers have criminal convictions. so much for their vetting system, and presumably this is only the IRISH ones.seen as how they can only vet africans from the day they arrive here,i dare say you can at least DOUBLE that figure if the truth be known, but they know nothing about these people from their country of origan.all these scumbags that work in our industry would not have the slightest chance of getting a job in ANY other industry, so it just goes to show what a dumping ground the taxi industry is,and what we are expected to work along side of
If employee’s feel they are not being treated right by there employers they can contact NERA or visit there web site @ employment rights
I believe also a person who has been convicted for a serious criminal offence may not be allowed to hold a PSV licence. I think the majority of the PSV holders would agree with that rule
prattman its in their minds only that they are EMPLOYEES,in reality they actually employ the scumbag owners of these companies, but through fear, and in some cases intimidation they cannot share honestly how they feel about them.as regards nera,i would have some slight knowledge of the way it works,as i am a former LRC employee who was based in the E A T [employment appeals tribunal],and later at both the [C R O] companies registration offices] at the compettition authority, both of whom i am awaiting answers from regarding the operations of certain radio companies
I know for a fact that NERA do good work and they investigate all issues an employee may be have with his employer
The new NTA registration portal will show it will be better for multiple plate owners to employ there drivers than to lease to them. The days of leasing are near an end in my opinion
tell that to the scumbag who has his rent boys in his new octavias, and charging them 350 a week for the privelage
do you think that greedy towrag flynn who owns materess mick, beds plus, and has 36 taxis, AND DRIVES A TAXI HIMSELF is going to employ them ? i dont
your completely right nera do good work, i agree

My goodness were have you all gone its got very quite on this blog in the last 2 days
Frank de Sociopath is our new secretary of state for social welfare. Miss him on this forum coz we are all starting to talk in circles, rubbish most of it. Funny but often he was right.
Kelly’s cat is now outta bag it is now out on RTE so he can drop it all, come up with a few new regulations that solve nothing and call it a good job well done.
Scumbags (I am expressing my frank opinion Royston) like Seanie have been given another YEAR before they will be dragged in front of the court. Did they not get enough time to destroy evidence? Fingers has never been tackled. As usual we will be amongst the whipped. Big brother will be watching. Maybe not entirely without good reason but will it solve the problem illegal operators ? I doubt it. The government is collecting all data from LEGAL taxi drivers, we will not be able to take a piss without having to report it. But the illegals are not reporting anything, they work on forged or cloned plates and they will look convincingly legal to the overworked cops.
What really upset me is the story of a taxi driver who got robbed and assaulted last week-end. He managed to escape by stopping in the middle of the road and NOT ONE PERSON come to his assistance. A fellow taxi driver behind him just beeped and drove around him. I am surprised he did not just run over him !
Again,I repeat: More red tape, more restrictions, penalty points are on the way. It will affect the legal drivers and will do little or nothing to solve our problems.
i asked this before, but nobody answered. i have a hale meter which must be recalibrated in march, now my question is, if my installer is able to do this WITHOUT breaking the existing seals ,is it ok to work on,or would i be working illegaly ? in other words if i get it recalibated, do i ALSO have to get it resealed ?
Spot on as usual Flyby.
Its the drivers who comply all the time that are taking the hits. Money for roofsign stickers, money for branding, extra tests for those who have older cars which are probably in better condition that some of the newer yokes I see around. Its all money and its being made by everyone bar the taxi driver.
The regulator and the enforcers are a disgrace and that whole body or quango or whatever you call it should be consigned to the scrapheap and let the gardai enforce the law.
The Gardai have enough on the plate. And the Taxi Regulator & enforcement officers are doing a very good job in my opinion also the Taxi Regulation Bill 2012 is to be welcomed
easy known YOU dont have to depend on the industry for a living,if you think the cops, or enforcers are doing a good job. explain this to me then,[and this is only one example] every single night, without fail, there is a continuios line of taxis ILLEGALLY plying for hire outside the central bank in dame st.i have reported this to them so many times now, that i have lost count , i have watched as the cops pass by, looking out the other window. its the same at the bottom of grafton st,dandalion on the green, dawson st, etc,etc so please explain how that is doing a good job prattman
ha ha vat man must be a comedien
he is appearing at the george tonight, back by poplar demand im told, with ac playing support
Hahahahahahahahahaha very funny
If taxi men & women want to illegally ply for hire and risk
having to receive a fixed fine plus penalty points that’s up to them. However I’m sure they know the rules 8 penalty points is an automatic suspension of SPSV licence for 3 months. Hahahaha
Is there CCTV on the ranks in ? That may be one way restricting taxi drivers from plying for hire illegally
pratt man you were the one said the cops were doing a good job, the fact that the towrags illegally plying for hire are STILL there night, after night, would suggest otherwise would it not ?
The Gardai & enforcement officers are doing the best they can under present circumstances
CCTV may be coming in to tackle this problem & fixed fines & penalty points will be come in the post. Maybe in 12 months time you can see how many taxi drivers received fixed charges & penalty points in the annual report published by the NTA
BB how long have you been driving?
Any change made to the meter involves breaking the seal. That is done for good reasons and should work if all drivers observe the law. Once your meter has been adjusted you will get a copy from the installers and you are obliged to get the meter resealed.
I am not sure what the grace period is, it would not surprise me if there is none any more. The days when we would go to Finglas are over.
Well, I reckon Ivan, Igor and Boris will have a set of large wheels for when they get the meter calibrated and as soon as that is done they will put the smallest wheels back on.
Vatman,
How many staff will be available to actually pursue offences like plying for hire on a place other than…. etc? It is only legal drivers who are losing out, so probably not worth their while, they are overworked and understaffed as it is and it is not going to be better soon.
And how many roof signs will they find with numbers that do not tally with the registered owner? By the time some bright spark garda is available to investigate that car may have another roof number belonging to another taxi ? I know some towrags switch cloned numbers periodically to confuse NTA and gardai. The situation in An Garda Siochana and NTA with all the cutbacks will keep them fairly safe.
As I have commented before let’s wait and see in the next 12 months annual report how many taxi drivers & multiple plate owners will have received fixed charges & penalty points for non compliance. Some taxi drivers have the attitude that the NTA have very few enforcement officers but the taxi drivers that think that & think they can get away with non compliance always seem to be always caught in the end.You can’t run from the wolf forever. I’m amazed how many taxis plates are forsale and taxis for rent are being advertised on different web sites. The requirement to register by the 31st of January seems to be taking some kind of effect
have to say in fairness the cops were very active last nite, they done the crowd outside donnehy and nesbitts, then down to georges st and done the crowd outside dunnes stores.i noticed that they DO seem to be a bit more active in the last week,or so.what angers me is, while i welcome what they are doing, they dont seem to tackle the ones that are interfering with the official ranks, examples londis shop dame st,interfering with fosters ,bottom of grafton st, interfering with molly malone, dandalion interfering with the green, etc, etc
You see now BB all in good time the message is out there don’t illegally ply for hire
will someone please tell me if i am required to ring before and after every shift as i have phoned the number and registered and four different people in the office have given me different answers, i am an employee not an owner or leasing, some told me i do other said i dont.
No you do not. Visit the NTA website for further details
Besides that any craic lads ???
fukk all work out there tonight lads
BB you should have joined a good taxi base plenty of customers calling looking for a taxis so I was told Hahahahahahahahahaha
Having a nice night in bottle of wine & watching The Late Late show
vat man, thanks for your comment, checked the web site but there was nothing there to clarify my enquirey which means i still am no wiser as to what im meant to do.
TJ ask all the taxis beside you on the rank to they check in everyday I think not. As your an employee you have nothing to worry about your employer is responsible for you. I’m sure your employer has registered you
I had no problem requesting. great site. I got a call from them on Friday. Telling me to ring them if i had any. problem. Very helpful.
Two questions,
1/ Is there any penalty points for cab companies or Renters ?
2/ Unlike drivers, can cab companies operate without a tax clearance cert, without paying VAT,without paying Employer PRSI, and operate without a dispatch and face no penalties ?
If they can ,the TRD are in their pockets.
you only realizing that now zed ? they have been in their pockets for a long time now. the hotels were also in their pockets when they allowed kellys thugs to ply for hire ILLEGALLY from their carparks.this was quickly followed by ebbs , and kearns crowd who done the same
Sounds like the TRD are vulnerable to bribery.
zed any enforcement officer who has been made aware of a situation involving the illegal plying for hire by SOME drivers and has failed to act on that information, well you can draw your own conclusions
€20 cash in the hand to a TCO is a lot cheaper than a €250 fine, anyway, you say nothing,I’ll say nothing
Hey guys new to the site but been driving a long time now. I was on to the NTA for about an hour yesterday to try and help my dad who is a 65 year old taxi driver and cant use a computer.
All i wanted to know off them was if me and my father own half the car what do we have to do.
They explained to me that i have to clock on when i do the night shift and when my father clocks on in the morning that will clock me off the system in the morning.
I thought this is a great system to get rid of fake driver those on the welfare and double jobbers not paying taxi and the extra earnings But when i asked is there going to be extra enforcement i was told “i dont know sir” when i asked will the garda be able to enforce any of this i was told “i dont think so just the regulators” this made me laugh were back to square one as in the last 10 years i have been stopped once and that was by the carriage office i have never see a regulator let alone been stopped by one. So to finish off my rant this portal is useless as for any offender will just get a fine if its is a fake car and fake ID u need a garda to have any powers of arrest and only the welfare can check there records so its back to 3 way checkpoints so the illegal drivers can ring each other and avoid them good work minster kelly a huge waste of tax payers money
Enforcement is a problem, it is possible the customer portal which allows them to check if the driver is registered may help.
The upcoming penalty point system it seems might be a much bigger incentive for drivers to behave
47,500 licence holders ringing the TRD will supply further revenue for them to enforce you.
Is the photo that comes up on the high tech gadget ,of the back of the drivers head ?
TRD couldn’t enforce the few regulations under the “light touch regulation policy”, they certainly don’t have the capacity now, with 40 new regulations or fineable offences, plus all the on line complaints that will sally forth, they might have to work more than the current 39 hours a week.
A laudable failure, most Driver ID’s are flat on the dash rendering them invisible, but at least they can crucify you now for trying to queue to get on a rank.
On a lighter note,What info’ did you give to the TRD’s hotline they didn’t ALREADY have ?
They now know what Taxi I’m driving at any given time, they were not aware of that previously.
A silly error on their part, now mended, the rental sector is finally in the net.
Or glorious rep bodies fail to understand the relevance and instead complain about data protection.
roy the regulator, and cops were out last night checking to see who had registred, and who had not. dont know if they were issueing fines or not, cause they told me to go ahead after they checked and found i was regestred
Great new app called DRIVER CHECK. download it, input roof sign, reg or badge number. Just going through a long list of drivers who have pissed me off over the years. ( i always write down their roof sign number) and surprise surprise , most of them are not on the system. i wonder why? So boys and girls and vatman. download the app, start checking numbers and report the ones that have no details, and the ones that do, have a long hard look at photo. great app, long over due. i will be calling the nta every day with the numbers of drivers i check and they come up blank.
Report them to the nta. just like we get reported for not giving a receipt. they will lose their contract.
ger when you said in your last post you have a long list of drivers who pissed you off over the years,i had to laugh. it reminded me of the episode of father ted, when he won the golden cleric award, and he went through his list of priests who pissed him over the years.i expect roy is bishop brennen,he pisses EVERYONE off
I do my best BB
ger is that all available on android
sorry APP

I don’t have a smartphone, anyway ,is there a way to track your complaint/s or is this another way to keep the TRD officers in the office?
Either way there won’t be one less bogus driver, just ID’s flat on the dash and interior bulbs removed .
Still, the drivers with no work idling for hours on the rank will be kept busy playing with their toys.
