I noticed yesterday that my regular petrol station had suddenly jacked up the prices. I was told that they had just received a new supply with the higher price. I had to fill up, I had to fork out nearly 5e more than the last time a few days earlier. I reckon the increase will pan out at about 18 Euro a week. And that is assuming there will not be another hike soon!
So, reluctantly, I must now accept that the lines are crossing:
On the one hand the need to keep the price down so that we won’t lose more fares because of the recession,
on the other hand our need to earn a living.
Our “friend” the fat man will no doubt come with crap about us earning loads and complaining all the time about our hardship.
The truth is: although our income can fluctuate a lot as we have good and bad shifts, at the end of the day we have to work insane hours. Only junior doctors seem to do worse hours but they can take their degree papers and move to another country that needs doctors and treats them better. We cannot take out taxi and PSV licence to work in another country, we have to accept that 40 hour a week just gives enough income to fill a shopping trolley at Lidl or Aldi. In order to earn sufficient to care for a family we have to do probably twice that.
So yes, we now need a modest fare increase.
What about a 10 c “fuel allowance” per job?
